Casa Sandra is a large single storey dwelling (300sq.m) completed in March of 2003. It has four large bedrooms, three bathrooms (en-suite for the master bedroom), large kitchen, lounge and utility room. The Casa has two spectacular verandas front and rear ideal for that lunchtime or evening meal. The driveway sweeps up from the road right round the back of the house. There is ample parking and turning space. The large pool area is situated at the far side of the casa fully enclosed, completely private and for safety reasons only accessible via gates that are either lockable or have sliding bolts. Beyond the pool is the Alpendre ideal for outside cooking and with its own toilet and shower room.

Changeover day
Changeover day is normally Saturday but can be flexible if that is possible. Terms and conditions will be sent with the booking form.

Family bathroom with 2 showers and large bath, double sink and mirror unit, bidet and wc. External toilet and shower room in the Alpendre.
Kitchen: Large kitchen diner with Gas hob and electric fan oven. Dishwasher, waste disposal unit, fridge freezer, microwave, toaster and ample cupboard and workspace. Traditional table & chairs set this excellent kitchen off nicely. Double doors to front veranda.
Utility Room: Washing machine and shoe rack.
Living Rooms: Lounge with Freesat TV, Video and DVD. Large open wood burning fireplace, leather suite, coffee table and bookcase comprising various games and DVDs'. The double front doors open directly onto the front veranda.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
All towels for internal use and linen is included. Linen is changed weekly and the casa is also cleaned then. All linen and towels are laundry cleaned and pressed.

Notes on accommodation
The property is ideal for families with children. The size of the villa means that two families can holiday together in spacious comfort making this a very economical choice. The pricing structure allows for reduced costs if there are fewer people in the holiday party.

Accessibility
The property is on a single level and wheelchair access would be fairly straightforward. It is in a small hamlet with the nearest big town around 15 minutes away by car. Generally a car would be needed to make the most of this peaceful and tranquil location.

Outside
The casa is situated in 3300 sq.m. of private land and overlooks the entire valley. The large private pool area has a 7.5m x 4.5m pool fully filtered and maintained and a purpose build Alpendre on the far side of the pool with its own shower and toilet facilities and traditional Portuguese stone BBQ and table set
The land has Olive, Fig and Eucalyptus trees as well as 2 lemon and 2 orange trees in a grassed area to the far side of the pool. Landscaping and improvements are ongoing and there is now a lovely garden area and several new trees including 2 orange, 2 lemon, 4 Walnut and 2 Almond.

Coast/Beach
This is a rural inland location about 90 minutes from the west coast, though that is well worth a trip.

Golf
The nearest golf course is the Golden Eagle about 1 hours drive from the casa.

Travel
The casa is 127 kilometres from Lisbon airport mostly motorway (A1 90 Km). A car is necessary and Lisbon airport is the best place to hire one.

Distances
The casa is situated about 12 minutes away (walking) from Paço da Comenda, a small village with one very nice restaurant, a mini market and a bar cafe. Tomar is about 15 minutes by car and is quite a large town with it's own cinema, supermarkets and fabulous market. Market day is Friday.

Further details
Around the Tomar area and in Tomar itself there are many places to visit including Fátima and Dornes, the latter presenting some outstanding views.

Every Friday in Tomar there is an enormous market where local produce is sold as well as just about anything else you can think of.

The year is punctuated with social events, jazz, dance and local handicraft festivals and gastronomic delights such as the soup festival in May when more than 60 soups can be sampled along with local wines. At Easter there are boating events at Constancia with traditional and modern craft, making a fascinating pageant.

Throughout the summer there are local festivals, always accompanied by barbecued chicken and fish frequently accompanied by live music and other entertainments. These are flavoured by the fresh evening air and continue well into the next morning. Then,in October there are dried fruit festivals with an unbelievable range of dried fruits and nuts to store for the winter. Then later in the month there is a national equestrian event at Golegã where both the horses and the riders provide a spectacle to delight.

There are castles, potteries, dinosaur footprints and beautiful caves plus an antique olive press museum to see. There are donkey rides and water sports; horse riding, golf, wine tasting and good food and drinks amongst very friendly people.

The casa provided everything we needed and with just the 4 of us there was plenty of room. We had sun, sun and sun. We enjoyed the pool, the 2 local cafes where we were made most welcome. Nobody told me that when I sat up in bed I would be able to see the trains on the Lisbon to Porto line - delight. We enjoyed the soft nature of the local people. Thank you from us all. John

About the owner
We are David and Sandra Allen and live in Tonbridge, Kent, England. We had holidayed in this area before because my friends sister and her husband moved to this part of Portugal some years before and we just fell in love with the place. We have two children and five grandchildren who all live near to us in England.

Year purchased: 2003

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We purchased the land for the villa in 2002 and then began work on the layout and structural requirements for the house. It was, we felt, an ideal location for a second home. This was truly built to order to accommodate our own family as well as to provide enough space for family holidays for others as well. Our plan still is to spend some months here each year and most of the summer in England. September and October can be very pleasant months weather wise as can March and April as well.

Unique benefits of the property
The area is rural although it seems one is never very far from a small village or hamlet wherever you are in Portugal. The Portuguese are a very soft natured and friendly people which makes it a joy to interact with them whether that be travelling, eating out or sightseeing. Spending a little time getting to grips with this difficult language is also always appreciated. It is so peaceful and quiet in a way we don't seem to notice in England. The weather is also a real boon with clear skies most of the time and reliable enough to plan outings and events with no fear of them being troubled by the kind of variation we are used to in the UK.
