In the beautifully landscaped gardens of the village, with mature pine and cork oak trees offering plenty of shade, are 6 swimming pools, 4 tennis courts, a Health Club with indoor pool, restaurant and bar and Balaia's own testing 9 hole par 3 golf course with superb clubhouse. With a small supermarket and the nearest beach within walking distance there is everything you need for either a relaxing or more energetic holiday.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the apartment per week in UK Pounds or Euros. Includes all water, electricity and cleaning after departure. For stays of more then 1 week a mid-stay apartment clean and change of towels and linen is included. Rentals crossing price bands will be priced pro rata. Short breaks also available at a nightly rate outside high season - negotiable.
Changeover day
Saturday or Sunday in July and August. Other days are possible outside high season to take advantage of cheaper flights midweek with low cost airlines - please ask. Check in may be possible before 4pm but not guaranteed. Check out is by 12 noon.

Notes on accommodation
Fans are available for the summer and electric heating in the winter. A cot, highchair or fold up bed can be requested for an extra daily charge. Some DVDs, books, buckets and spades, cool box and beach umbrella are all available for your use. Please do not smoke in the apartment, however ashtrays are provided if you wish to smoke on the terraces.

Outside
The apartment (No.469) is close to the Reception, Restaurant and Main Entrance of Balaia. It is approx 50m from the nearest swimming pool, which is surrounded by luxuriant gardens with mature pine and cork oak trees giving plenty of shade if required. There are 6 outdoor pools in total, two of which have poolside bars. Sun loungers are freely available to use around the pools. In addition there is an indoor pool within the Health Club, which also has a fully equipped Gym, steam room and jacuzzi, a similar distance away, although there is an extra charge payable locally to use this. 4 Tennis courts and 9 hole par 3 golf course.
Coast/Beach
Two sandy beaches are within walking distance. The apartment is at the end of the village that is closest to the beaches. The nearest one, Maria Luisa, is approx. 400m away (about 10 minutes walk) with a beach bar, sun beds and shades and pedalos etc for hire. There are of course plenty of other beaches within easy driving distance.
Golf
Balaia has its own award winning, testing 9 hole par 3 course with holes ranging in length from 67 to 160 metres. There are no handicap limitations but proper golf attire and soft spiked shoes must be worn. There is also a driving range, practice bunker and chipping and putting greens. Golf lessons are available. There is an impressive clubhouse with large terrace overlooking the first tee with reception, pro shop, club and trolley hire and changing rooms with lockers. In addition there are a number of international standard golf courses easily accessible from Balaia with reduced green fees available. The Vilamoura courses and Salgados are 15-20 minutes away and others in the Algarve are easily reached via the motorway.
Travel
Faro airport is approx.30 minutes away. I can book transfers for you through Balaia. Lisbon airport is 2.5 - 3 hours away on the motorway. Car hire is not essential - a shuttle bus runs from Balaia village to Albufeira and back 4 times a day during the week and twice at weekends. Taxis into Albufeira cost about 6 Euros and can be ordered through reception. Various waterparks such as Aqualand, Slide & Splash and Zoomarine run their own coach services - again book through reception.
Further details
There is on site management and an excellent English speaking 24 hour reception where you can change money, book taxis or airport transfers, book and reserve golf tee times at reduced rates and book for local attractions and excursions. They can also arrange storage of luggage if you arrive before the apartment is ready or do not need to depart until later. There is a row of small shops close to the apartment which comprise a supermarket, newsagent, gift shop, hairdressers and beauty salon. The supermarket stocks just about everything you need including fresh bread and some takeaway cooked food such as barbequed chicken, lasagna and a dish of the day. There is a larger supermarket down the road towards Olhos d'Agua which is easier for parking and closer than those in Albufeira. Albufeira has a small shopping mall but there is a much larger one (Algarve Shopping) with many shops, hypermarket and multi screen cinema not far away at Guia. Balaia Golf Village has its own restaurant (La Veranda) close to the apartment next to reception overlooking one of the pools and another restaurant at the Golf Clubhouse. In addition there are a number of other restaurants within walking distance and many others reachable by car or taxi in Albufeira or Olhos d'Agua. Livelier nightlife can be found in Albufeira either in the Old Town or on 'The Strip'.
