The house


The three-storey house is in a small village in the Sintra-Cascais natural park, nestling between the Sintra mountains and glorious Guincho beach. The house is our family home and is ideal for a family, or group of friends. The holiday home has a garden, barbecue, terrace and a fully fitted kitchen. It is a perfect spot for surfers, windsurfers, golfers, horseriders, bike and walk enthusiasts or simply to chill out.

Notes on prices
Prices shown are for the property per week in UK Pounds.
We can offer a special price for extended winter lets. Please contact us to discuss. We also accept payment in euros. Electricity is included in the price though we may incur extra expense for winter stays.

Changeover day
Saturday is the preferred changeover day but this can be flexible. Departure time is 10am and arrival time 2pm, though this can be flexible.

Accommodation
Bedrooms: Bedroom 1 with double bed, plus a fitted wardrobe.
Bedroom 2 with double bed, plus chest of drawers.
Bedroom 3 with twin beds, plus a fitted wardrobe.
Bedroom 4 is the double-roomed attic with a large single/small double bed, plus a sofa bed.
Bathrooms: Bathroom downstairs with a shower, wc, basin, fitted cupboard.
Bathroom upstairs with bath/shower, wc, bidet, basin and fitted cupboard.
Kitchen: Kitchen is equipped with electric cooker, hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.
Utility Room: Cupboard under the stairs has basic cleaning equipment: vacuum cleaner, mop, broom, bucket, etc.
Living Rooms: Open living/dining room. Two-seated sofa, two armchairs, an open fireplace, television and video. Fitted cupboards. Dining room has table and six chairs.
Other: Upstairs terrace.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Towels and bed linen are included. The house is cleaned on Saturdays (changeover day) with a change of towels and linen. This can be flexible.

Notes on accommodation
There are a number of electric heaters for the winter, to be found in one of the cupboards in the attic. The house is very family friendly, with games in one of the downstairs cupboards, plus there are two children's car seats available for use on request. We could probably provide an extra cot if needed. No smoking please.

Outside
The house has a garden, with a built-in barbecue. It looks out onto a pleasant communal garden.

Coast/Beach
Arguably Europe's finest beach -- Guincho -- is five minutes' drive away, and is well known for the windsurfing and surfing on offer. Courses can be arranged at the beach. It's a stunning 2-3 kilometre sandy beach, though can be windy and/or rough. There are two other beaches -- Abano and Cresmina -- either side of Guincho. Cascais also has a couple of beaches, ideal and safe for children. A little further afield are the beaches of Adraga, Praia Grande and Praia das Maças.

Golf
There are several courses about 10-15 minutes' drive: Quinta da Beloura, Quinta da Marinha, Estoril, Penha Longa (site of the European Championship), Oitavos and Estoril Sol. About 14 others are within an hour's drive. Green fees are usually less expensive and courses less crowded than in the Algarve. Visitors with a club handicap are welcome everywhere. There are two nine-hole courses recommended for beginners at Estoril Sol and Penha Longa. A worthwhile course for a day out is Praia del Rei.

Travel
Lisbon airport is about 35 kilometres away via motorway, which ends five minutes away from our village. Convenience without the traffic noise. Car hire is recommended. The village has a reliable bus service to Cascais centre and railway station, from where trains go every 20 minutes to Belém and Lisbon. The train journey to Lisbon takes about 35 minutes.

Distances
Cascais is a picturesque fishing village grown up into a bustling tourist town (about 10 kilometres away). It has a marina, park, cultural centre, historic buildings and churches, plenty of bars and restaurants and offers some good shopping, Boca do Inferno, plus a good coastal cycle path/road to Guincho.
Historical Sintra is about 15 kilometres away. Cabo da Roca, the most westerly point of Continental Europe, is 10 km away and a beautiful drive through the mountains and along the coast.

Further details
Charneca has a riding stables, a restaurant/bar, launderette, some small shops such as a basic supermarket, and a fruit and vegetable shop. A vegetable truck comes twice weekly and stops outside the house. A couple of fish vans stop in the village, ask in the village. Malveira da Serra is about 3 kilometres' drive away and is well stocked with a good supermarket, bakery, a couple of hairdressers, bank, photo developer, butchers, a newsagents (with foreign newspapers), pizzeria, framing shop, and a few others. Aldeia de Juso, about 2 kilometres the other way, also has a supermarket, and a post office, butchers, hairdressers, etc. The area is good for hiking, mountain biking, sailing (Cascais) and other outdoor activities. Guincho has some superb restaurants.

Booking notes
Terms are 20% deposit on reservation (not refundable in case of cancellation), with the outstanding balance to be paid one month before departure. A £100 refundable deposit is required before arrival.
