Orthez self-catering holiday gites are found in the South West of France poised between the sea and the mountains. The closest beach to a rental villa in Orthez is the fashionable Biarritz and all along that coast there are surf beaches and quiet coves; sailing and water-skiing are also popular past times. In the mountains there is plenty to keep you occupied during your stay in a cottage in Orthez with walking, hiking, mountain biking and horse riding as well as salmon fishing and canoeing. There is also sailing and water skiing on the lakes just ten minutes away.
The mountains close to an Orthez rental gite also afford more extreme sports like rock climbing, white water rafting and, in the winter, skiing and other winter sports. The closest large ski resort is Cauterets approximately 145 kilometres away. While there are plenty of good restaurants in the vicinity of an Orthez holiday villa if you would like to eat surrounded by Art Deco splendour then a day out in Biarritz is called for. There is also some seriously good shopping to be done here. Also, if you feel like a sortie into Spain then then the border is not very far on from Biarritz; you could even consider a visit to the Dali Museum in Figueres.

The best time to visit a holiday gite in Orthez will depend on what sort of holiday you are after, for sun, sand and the lakes and rivers then June, July and August are probably best, for mountain pursuits any time in the spring, summer and autumn, while skiing and winter sports, obviously, the middle of winter.
