Travel Guide of Newport Town (Pembrokeshire, Wales)

Newport Town is a delightful destination in Pembrokeshire - its seaside charm attracts thousands of tourists every year. Founded as early as 1197, it has since grown into one of Wales' most popular seaside resorts. Yet there are a wide range of attractions aside from the picturesque shore, including the summit of Mynydd Carningli and the tranquil River Nyfer. There are also dozens of footpaths and cycle trails in the area, but while experts might challenge themselves to hike the peaks of the Preseli Hills, those with more humble ambitions will delight in the pretty coastline. With many art galleries, craft shops and cosy cafes besides, booking holiday lettings in Newport Town is a great choice year-round.

Things to do in Newport Town

Newport Town's Welsh name is 'Trefdraeth', meaning 'Town of the Beach', and should give you a good idea of the seaside activities on offer! Sitting on the River Nevern with wonderful views towards Cardigan Bay, there's nothing better than going for a bracing walk along the coast. Kayaking, boating and abseiling are also popular activities, and there are plenty of places where you can hire a canoe for the day. Of course, when staying in holiday rentals in Newport Town, you might not be blessed with sunny weather - but if the clouds come out and the heavens pour, there's still plenty to keep you busy. Take a day trip to Pentre Ifan, just a couple of miles outside town: an ancient single-chambered tomb, it's a fascinating Neolithic landmark.

Places to see in Newport Town

Our apartments in Newport Town are all centrally-located, but excellent public transport can take you to a range of attractions further afield. The Church of Saint Mary Magdalene is a short journey away in Wiston, but certainly worth a visit: it was built during the 12th century by Wizo the Fleming, who also built the neighbouring castle. If you'd rather explore the coast than the historical landmarks inland, head for the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. You can spot seals, dolphins and porpoise, and a range of magnificent seabirds. Whether you're in Wales for sightseeing or walking, choose holiday homes in Newport Town for the very best of both.
