Newport on Tay - Without the city of Dundee there would be no Newport on Tay as there would have been no reason for the town to have developed if not to serve as a satellite of Dundee. The town developed as a ferry port for the many travellers wanting to travel to Dundee and the authorities originally tried to name the town ‘New Dundee’ but there was poor uptake and instead Newport on Tay was born. Newport on Tay cottages provide excellent accommodation in this town on the banks of the Tay and almost all of the cottages in Newport on Tay are all within easy walking distance of the banks of the river.

A Wealthy Population

When Thomas Telford built a pier here for his steam boats Newport on Tay became the place to live. Wealthy merchants flocked to the town to escape the acrid smoke and pollution of the big industrial cities and many of their grand houses can still be seen on the hillsides that overlook the city of Dundee. Apartments in Newport on Tay offer views across the river to the bustling city of Dundee and all of the holiday accommodation in Newport on Tay places visitors close by to the river and its scenic surroundings.

Highly Desirable

With the building of the rail bridge over the Tay more and more people saw living in Newport as a viable place to commute into the city from, practically turning the town into a suburb of Dundee. Signs of this influx of population can still be seen in the design and character of some of the buildings in the town. Holiday rentals in Newport on Tay are all within a short journey of the city of Dundee, making the holiday homes in Newport on Tay the perfect holiday accommodation - close to the vibrant entertainment of the city but far enough away to offer peace and tranquillity.
