Our farmhouse will provide all amenities for the most perfect stay in the peaceful village of Diever - an historic Drenthe village - at the heart of rural Netherlands and surrounded by areas of stunning natural beauty. It is just a 10 minute walk to reach the forests of one of the largest National parks in the Netherlands! Perfect for hiking, biking, riding or just picnicking. The farmhouse has cable TV (UK and American channels) and there is a selection of films on DVD, as well as a CD collection and English language books. There is also secure wireless broadband internet access throughout the farmhouse. For children, there are soft toys, games and books available while 2 cots, 2 highchairs, a play-pen and a baby bath will help accommodate our youngest guests. Comprehensive tourist information covering Diever village and the surrounding areas (including Friesland, its islands and Overijssel), as well as most major tourist attractions in the Netherlands is provided.

We can accept all major international credit and charge cards, as well as UK debit cards via PayPal. Payment by bank transfer (British Pounds or Euros) and by UK bank cheque is also possible.

15% - bookings made within 6 weeks before arrival
10% - bookings of 14-day duration

Preferred changeover day is on Friday (although we are flexible).

Utility Room: The utility area has a large capacity washing machine and dishwasher
Living Rooms: Large living room with seating for 10. Incl. cable TV (including BBC/CNN channels), video recorder, DVD player with a selection of DVDs, radio and CD player, plus a CD collection. There are children's toys / board games, plus a 'tourist information' point
Other: Bookcase on the upstairs landing containing a selection of English-language books.

Notes on accommodation
The farmhouse is fully centrally heated for a winter stay, while standing fans are provided for your comfort in summer.

A complimentary welcome pack will be found on arrival, containing bread, butter, milk, jam, cheese, eggs, sugar, coffee, tea and orange juice.
If you would like anything else in particular to be included in the welcome pack, please just let us know.

Accessibility
Although the entrance is on a flat level, the farmhouse is unsuitable for (large) wheelchair access due to the width of some of the downstairs door frames.

Outside
There is ample off street parking.

For your use there is a private patio with chairs, tables and parasol supplied, plus shared gardens (including a trampoline).

A BBQ is available.

Bicycle-hire is available locally (which can also be arranged before arrival), with secure storage on site

Coast/Beach
The Frisian islands make a great day out with some of the best beaches in the Netherlands. They are around 1 ¼ hour’s drive away, with an onward ferry crossing.

Golf
There is an 18-hole golf course available in Havelte (14km).

Travel
Diever easily accessible (2 hrs) from the airports of Amsterdam Schiphol, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, and Groningen Eelde (30 minutes). Budget airlines to Amsterdam include easyjet, bmibaby, flybe, Jet2 and Transavia. Rotterdam from London Gatwick (Transavia) and London City (Cityjet). Eindhoven from London Stansted (Ryanair), London City (Cityjet) and London Gatwick (Aer Lingus). Groningen from Aberdeen (bmi). To Weeze, Germany (just 90 mins!) from Birmingham, Edinburgh and London Stansted (Ryanair).

Distances
Diever is approximately a 2-hour drive from Rotterdam Europort, Ijmuiden and the Hoek of Holland. A car is recommended (rental cars also available at the above airports) with easy access to Hoogeveen (20 minutes), Assen (25 minutes), Emmen (45 mins) and Groningen. Public transport (bus) just a few minutes walk away with links to the surrounding villages and towns. Nearest train station is at Beilen (20 minutes away), with direct services to Groningen (30 minutes) and Amsterdam Airport (2 hours).

Further details
Located on the edge of the Drents-Friese Wold (6100 hectares), one of the biggest national parks of the Netherlands, with 32 marked walks and numerous cycle paths.

Also situated close by to National Park Dwingelderveld (3692 hectares) - the largest moorland on the European Continent - with its 60 kms of walking trails and 40 kms of bicycle paths.

Local activities in this area of outstanding natural beauty include walking, bicycling, horse riding and birdwatching.

Sailing and fishing can be enjoyed at Giethoorn (the Venice of the North).

The provincial capital at Assen is just 25 minutes away. While Emmen (with its world-famous zoo), the city of Groningen (shop till you drop) and the German border are all less than an hour's drive away.

For the children, there are 18 funparks in the surrounding area. More than 25 museums will provide an interest to each member of the family (yes, there's even a museum of comic books!)

Then there's Diever village itself, its restaurants, cafes, shops and supermarket, its 14th Century church and famously renowned for the open-air productions of Shakespeare which have been re-enacted in its forest amphitheatre every Summer since 1946.

Diversity on your doorstep: Diever is placed at the crossroads of three provinces - Drenthe, Overijssel and Friesland - all uniquely different to one another. So when you are in Drenthe, why not discover Friesland and Overijssel provinces as well - the borders lie just 15 minutes away by car!

So, whether its picnicking in the forest, taking a dip in a forest bathing pool or going by horseback along one of the many marked trails, you wont be disappointed by this areas rich heritage, its welcoming, English-speaking people and its unending choice of excursions and attractions.

Greetings from Diever! We are David and Monique Samson. In 2004 we decided to relocate our family to peaceful rural Drenthe, one of the most beautiful parts of the Netherlands.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
In the small village of Diever we found the perfect location to begin a holiday home: restaurants and shops at walking distance, as well as two National Parks close by (including the largest area of moorland in Europe).
