Riad Laksiba (5 Bedrooms, Sleeps 10)The Kasbah district is the Royal Quartier; the 1st Citadel of the Sultans of Morocco: Behind us the "Royal Agdal Gardens and the Ourika Valley beyond", to the front "The Saadian Tombs" where past Sultans are buried, the Kasbah Mosque then the Jemaa el Fna and world famous Souks; to the side the Palace of Hassan II and the other side the Palace of Mohamed VI (the current King) with the Koutoubia Mosque beyond (the centre of Marrakech). Thus the streets are cleaner, well illuminated, people politer and the whole area better policed; all of which adds to the great enjoyment of the wandering traveller. The street food in the Kasbah is excellent and the fruit and veg Berber Market in the Kasbah receives troops of Guided visitors and locals alike, from across the Medina of Marrakech, on a daily basis. Indeed we buy our Bread and Oranges from the Berber Market each day.

About the area
We have 2 bedrooms on the ground floor and no steps to the Riad from the street. Taxi access is just at the end of our little cul-de-sac. Suitable for my mum! If travelling with young children then you must be responsible for any activities near the splash pool.
Ground floor patio and splash pool. Private roof terrace for sunbathing (cold shower and separate H/C Shower and Toilet on the Terrace). Distinctive Moroccan Chill-out mattress & cushions style zone, for evening Shisha-Pipe if inclined.
We also have an exclusive association with a wonderful Riad in a great location in Essaouira (the seaside). Three and half hour interesting journey to the coast. As the Riad is built into the ancient ramparts, the Riad has the most amazing views of the Ocean from the roof terrace. A suggestion is to set off after breakfast, arrive for lunch, enjoy the beach and old medina and visit the fish market in the centre. Choose from catch-of-the-day and consume in-situ. Overnight, return after lunch.
Marrakech features three world class courses The Royal, The Amelkis and The Palmeraie. All are a ten minute taxi ride from the old town.
When in Season - (late February to end of April) Oukaimeden Ski resort is a great day out from Marrakech. Set off after breakfast and your Taxi should arrive at the slopes by late morning (Great countryside). Ski for a a couple of hours, stop for lunch, head back to Marrakech to arrive home for Mint Tea. Put Oukaimeden into YouTube and you will see my daughter Hannah, filmed leaving Riad Laksiba, the journey, the skiing and the mountain lunch. Cheapest ski resort we have ever found for ski/sticks/lift pass (all in £20)!
Special Interest Holidays
We also organise:
Yoga Courses, Photography Courses, Moroccan Cookery introduction.
Excursions available to the Countryside, Mountains, Coast.
Overnight trips to Essaouira (the seaside) can also be arranged.
Camel Rides, Quad Bikes, Rafting, Tubing, Canyoning, Mountain Biking.
How to get there
We can collect guests at Marrakech airport which is just a ten minute drive from the old town Medina via private chauffeur service.
Riad Laksiba is located just inside the Medina Walls at Bab Ksiba. Walk through Bab Ksiba, take the 1st turn right (Derb Kadi) and you have arrived: simple. No fear of getting lost in the Medina labyrinth. Rue de la Kasbah is next to us, an arterial route to the Saadien Tombs, Kasbah Mosque, Royal Palaces, Agdal Gardens and, of course, the Jemaa el fna, main square and souks.

House swap considered. My family are always keen to explore different cultures and communities.
One thing that you wonít see quantified anywhere, and it does slightly defy description, is the sense of community that has been created by Ė by what? the architecture? the care of the owners and staff? I donít know, but itís sort of like living in a family but without any of the annoying necessity of having to communicate with anyone if you donít want to. There are five rooms, all with their own en suite facilities, a roof terrace with sun loungers that are brought out on request, four seating areas for between two and four people around, or overlooking, the splash pool and a kitchen/office on the ground floor. Plenty of opportunity to keep yourself to yourself. But if you do want to interact with your fellow guests, itís somehow possible to be close at a distance Ė Iím not entirely sure that makes sense, but it will if youíve been there. Quite honestly, we could have just stayed in the four walls of the Riad and had a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable time.... RedBBlack June 2011.

Year property purchased: 2007
Why this location?
For years my wife and I have been trawling the narrow streets (derbs) in the Medina, the old walled-in city of Marrakech, looking for a suitable location for a Riad to purchase. It dawned on me that I always chose hotels in the Kasbah district of the Medina, to set up Base Camp, whilst exploring. The answer, for "Where to Buy"?, had been staring me in the face from outset. The Imperial Kasbah. First Citadel of the Sultans of Morocco! The Kasbah is rich in community spirit, alive at night, has Royal Palaces, historic attractions and, moreover, feels safe. Location...location...location...is the thing we "bang on about" in the UK. It made sense to add some criteria. Quiet, easy to access and MOST IMPORTANTLY...easy to find.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
In 2010 Riad Laksiba enjoyed an entire restoration, in "Old Palace" style; (in keeping with the UNESCO World Heritage status) whilst being filmed for House Hunters International; an American TV Show dedicated to owners buying abroad. September 2010 the TV show was rolled out to a Global Network of some 97 Million homes. Now; regular repeats! October 2010 we felt the Marrakech climate was right to "open the doors" of our special Riad home for guests to enjoy and sample the immediate community that has given so much pleasure. Amazingly our first guests came from as far away as Canada and Azerbaijan. The TV show "struck a chord" to many travellers visiting Europe who felt a budget trip to Marrakech could be squeezed in.
