Dar Ettouahen, the 'Mill House', is an elegant, light and spacious riad, with traditional stone arches, tadelakt (marble-dust walled) bathrooms, tiled floors, high thuya wood ceilings and a open log fireplace. On the roof is a large sheltered terrace with views over the sea and medina. The house is situated in the heart of the medina (old town), close to the sea wall, in a friendly quiet area with shops and cafes nearby. The beach, restaurants, souks (craft, food and spice markets) are all within 10 minutes walk. Guests are taken care of by our local manager who will meet you on arrival and offer advice and help in organising activities. Our housekeeper is able to provide delicious Moroccan breakfasts and dinner at home if you would like them. Babysitting is also available on request.

Notes on accommodation
Children are very welcome and Essaouira is a pedestrianised, safe and friendly town. The house has a high chair, cot and baby bath. The weather in Essaouira is mild year-round so the wood-burning fire provides ample heating for the whole house. There are additional electric radiators in the bedroom for cold nights. Air conditioning is unnecessary as there as the roof windows can be opened and the house is made of thick stone so it remains cool even in the hottest temperatures.
There is wireless internet, a TV and DVD player (with a selection of films, including some for children, a stereo with CD player and iPod docking station. A local mobile phone is provided for guests' use.
Khadisha, our housekeeper, cooks fantastic Moroccan food in the house on request, at a very reasonable cost (cheaper than restaurants). Breakfast (bread, eggs, yoghurt, Moroccan pastries, tea, coffee, juice) and dinner (e.g. tagine, couscous, salad, fruit) available.
Accessibility
The house is not suitable for people with mobility problems as there are three flight of stairs. Stair gates are available for children.
Outside
Large split level roof terrace with sea view. Equipped with table, 8 chairs and sunbeds. Covered sheltered area with low level comfy seating, rug and candle burners for romantic evenings outside or getting out of the sun.
Coast/Beach
Eight minutes walk to the beach. The beach is clean, long and sandy with shallow water safe for swimming. Well-known for wind-surfing and kite-surfing: lessons and equipment hire available. Essaouira is a fishing town and the harbour with characteristic blue boats is close to the beach.
Golf
Three miles to golf course.
Travel
Nearest airports are Marrakech and Agadir (both 2.5 hours by car / bus). We are able to arrange transport to and from airports or elsewhere. Car hire not needed. Our caretaker will meet you on arrival and take you to the house.
Distances
Further afield, Marrakech is 2.5 hours, Safi (famous for pottery with an ancient and beautiful Median) is 2 hours north up the coast and Agadir (beach resort) is 2 hours south. Lots of local interest within 30 minutes.

You will be greeted by Fouad, our local caretaker and he will be available to offer help and advice throughout your stay. Local activities include quad biking, camel and horse riding, Hammans, trips to a local Argan oil co-operative, wind-surfing, kite-surfing, Gnaua music evenings, henna tattoos, seafood barbecues. Fouad can offer you help in organising all these activities and more personalised trips.

25% non-refundable deposit payable on booking. The remaining amount payable one month before the start of holiday. £50 refundable breakage deposit.
