Riad R’mila is in the centre of the Fez ancient Medina; an oasis of calm set against the bustling Medina streets. You may choose to rent the entire house, or subject to availability, just a room or suite. This traditional house, in a style which is typical in Morocco, has been lovingly and sympathetically restored to an exceptionally high standard, keeping many of the original features and additional luxury features including a jacuzzi pool. When you stay in the house it is not just a vacation rental but a true Moroccan experience. Changeover day
Provided we do not have another party arriving the same day, we are completely flexible regarding your departure time. If you would like to make use of a late departure please let us know when booking.

Notes on accommodation

Our garden has several mature trees (including a lemon tree) and a fountain.
Travel
Fez airport is 20km SW of Fez. Taxis are always available at the airport, alternatively we can arrange for a taxi to meet you.
Distances
Meknes is 60km from Fez – it was once the capital of Morocco and is well worth a visit. Nearby to Meknes are the ruins of the Roman city of Volubilis. A visit to Meknes and Volubilis can combined as a day excursion from Fez. A day trip to Casablanca and Rabat is also possible – allow about 5 hours by road to reach Casablanca.
For longer excursions we can arrange trips into the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara, and other activities such as mountain-biking and horse riding.
Further details
The old town of Fez is the largest walled Medina in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Its 9000 streets are a maze of alleyways both large and small, and vehicles are not allowed inside the walls. Although it can be interesting just to wander the streets, if your time in Fez is short an official guide will allow you to get the best impression of the Medina.
The riad is inside the Medina and within easy walking distance of the famous tannery. Several shops overlook the tannery and they will be happy to explain some of the tanning process to you.
A visit to a hammam is a must. Traditionally houses do not have bathing facilities, and water is considered to be expensive (water for washing etc is still collected from a fountains where it is free) and a hammam is a communal bathing house. Traditional hammams still exist, but a visit to a modern hammam is similar to a spa treatment centre, providing massages, steam and sauna rooms, plunge pool etc.
