Dar Doughri is a beautifully decorated holiday home in a quiet and pedestrianized area of Essaouira equipped with everything our guests need for a short or long-term holiday stay. The Dar is a short walk from the cresent shaped beach, bustling Medina (walled town), restaurants and cafes, and swimming pools of Essaouira. The house has 4 comfortable bedrooms for 2/8 guests and is for our guests exclusive use. There are 2 double and 2 twin rooms and each has private or an en-suite tadelackt bathroom. The large salon with open wood fire is cosy in winter, light and airy in summer. The kitchen/breakfast room is fully equipped for Karima to cook, or teach, our guests delicious traditional tagines from our in house menu. The spacious, private roof terrace with panoramic views of Essaouira is the perfect spot for rest and relaxation. All guests are welcomed, and looked after for the duration of their holiday, by Fouad, our house manager and Karima, our housekeeper and fabulous cook.

Notes on prices
The above price is based on up to 8 person occupancy and is negotiable for stays longer than 2 weeks. For 7 day rentals a 15% discount is offered to a group of 2 guests or less.
A booking contract will need to be signed and returned. £100 booking deposit is required.
Payment must be received in GBP by sterling cheque, online transfer (n.b. charges are responsibility of the renter) in sterling or Paypal.

Notes on accommodation
Families with children of all ages welcome. We have a highchair, Chicco travel cot, baby monitor and stair gate available.

An information file, in English, is available for all guests which contains guest and owner recommendations on restaurants, supermarkets, adventures and various local maps. A local supermarket and pharmacy are nearby. Long term renters welcome, pets considered.

Accessibility
We are wheelchair inaccessible and unsuitable for the elderly or infirm due to stairs.

Outside
Private roof terrace with a large pergola and eating/lounging area is perfect for al fresco eating and reading in the shade.
Sunshine bathes the terrace all day and there is plenty of space for the sun loungers. Panoramic views of the Beach and Medina.

Coast/Beach
The beach is a 500m walk and there are swimming pools in local hotels that allow non residents nearby. The 15km long beach will allow you plenty of space to sunbath, read, swim and play beach sports. You can secure yourself a sunbed and umbrella if you need it and the public toilets are well managed. If you have young children you can enjoy the secure play areas with swings and slides dotted along the beach. The costal breeze rarely allows the temperature to get above mid 30's.

Nearest airport: Marrakech at 180km. Nearest ferry port: Agadir at 180km. Nearest railway station: Marrakech at 160km. Car hire can be arranged for transfer and excursions.

Distances
UNESCO World Heritage Site town of Essaouira has family adventures to offer including dune buggies, horse safaris and camel riding, hiking, kite-surfing, swimming, tennis, sailing, cycling, fishing, windsurfing, and mountain biking. The Portuguese ramparts and a small fishing port, the cresent shaped beach, lively Medina (walled city), the internationally acclaimed restaurants and cafes, and swimming pools provide many places to explore.

Further details
Dar Doughri is a short walk through Bab Marakesh for entry into the ancient Medina (walled town) - see pics.

There are plenty and fruit, vegetables, meats, spices and fresh fish to purchase but restaurants along the beach or in the Medina also offer a variety of Moroccan, French and Italian cuisine.

In the souks you will find hidden gems in leather, silver, and ceramics and there are no motorised vehicles allowed inside the Medina, which gives it a very hassle free atmosphere.

There are a number of banks, bakers, village shops and pharmacies a short walk from Dar Doughri as are the three hotel swimming pools in the town which are open to non residents.

A booking contract will need to be signed and returned. The above price is based on up to 8 person occupancy. GBP100 booking deposit is required this will be held as security against damages and refunded within 2 weeks of end of rental period. Payment must be received in GBP and in full one calender month prior to the start of rental period. Payment can be made by sterling cheque, online transfer in sterling to HSBC (First Direct) bank account or Paypal.
The rate is negotiable for longer stays.

We were a bit unlucky with the weather as we did have a lot of rain but it was December after all and we found that even though the wind blew also the temperature was lovely and warm. Owner profile


About the owner
Our bond with Morocco stems from many tales of my grandparents living in Demnate in the Atlas Mountains during the Second World War. They were Christian missionaries and opened their house to orphans and all in need of help in the village before my grand father was interned by the Nazis in Casablanca and then returned to the UK with his family. We are a married couple with two young children and fell in love with Essaouira while on holiday there in 2007 and could not resist the exotic pull of North Africa and bought Dar Doughri in February 2008.
