Dar Doughri is a traditionally decorated townhouse/villa/riad that sleeps 8 in the Moroccan coastal town of Essaouira on the Atlantic coast. The Dar (Arabic word for townhouse) has four large double and twin bedrooms all with private bathrooms, a generous sized salon and kitchen/breakfast room. Our spacious, secure and private roof terrace with panoramic views makes our property unique in Essaouira. The house is fully is equipped for a self-catering family, or group, holiday and is only a short walk to the beach, Medina (walled town), restaurants, swimming pools and water sports. Dar Doughri is managed by our Guardian who is on hand to welcome all our guests on arrival. He is able to book taxis, recommend and book suitable sports, and adventures, for guests of any age and generally be on hand should there be any concerns during the stay. The Dar has a housekeeper and she is also available to cook meals on request, using traditional produce.

The above price is based on up to 8 person occupancy. The rate is negotiable for stays longer than 2 weeks. £100 booking deposit is required this will be held as security against damages and refunded within 2 weeks of departure. Payment is due, in full ,1 calender month prior to the start of rental period. Payment can be made by sterling cheque, online transfer in sterling to HSBC (First Direct) bank account or Paypal. Discounts will apply for longer stays of 2 weeks or more.

Families with children of all ages welcome. We have a highchair, Chicco travel cot, baby monitor and stair gate available.

An information file, in English, is available for all guests which contains guest and owner recommendations on restaurants, supermarkets, adventures and various local maps. A local supermarket and pharmacy are nearby. Long term renters welcome, pets considered.

Accessibility
We are wheelchair inaccessible and unsuitable for the elderly or infirm due to stairs.

Outside
Private roof terrace with a large pergola and eating/lounging area is perfect for al fresco eating and reading in the shade.
Sunshine bathes the terrace all day and there is plenty of space for the sun loungers. Panoramic views of the Beach and Medina.

Coast/Beach
The beach is a 500m walk and there are also two swimming pools in local hotels that allow non residents. The 15km long beach will allow you plenty of space to sunbath, read, swim and play beach sports. You can secure yourself a sunbed and umbrella if you need it and the public toilets are well managed. If you have young children you can enjoy the secure play areas with swings and slides dotted along the beach. The costal breeze rarely allows the temperature to get above mid 30's.

Travel
Nearest airport: Marrakech at 180km. Nearest ferry port: Agadir at 180km. Nearest railway station: Marrakech at 160km. Car hire can be arranged for transfer and excursions.

Distances
A short walk (10 minutes maximum) for entry into the Medina, to the beach, restaurants and souks. Village store, bakers and pharmacy are in locality.

Further details
Dar Doughri is a short walk through Bab Marakesh for entry into the ancient Medina (walled town) - see pics.

There are plenty and fruit, vegetables, meats, spices and fresh fish to purchase but restaurants along the beach or in the Medina also offer a variety of Moroccan, French and Italian cuisine.

In the souks you will find hidden gems in leather, silver, and ceramics and there are no motorised vehicles allowed inside the Medina, which gives it a very hassle free atmosphere.

There are a number of banks, bakers, village shops and pharmacies a short walk from Dar Doughri as are the three hotel swimming pools in the town which are open to non residents.

The Portuguese ramparts and a small working fishing port provide plenty of sites to explore.

Family/adventure activities locally include camel riding, dune buggies, trekking, surfing, swimming, tennis, sailing, cycling, fishing, horse riding, wind-surfing, mountain biking.

Maid service is included in the price. The above price is based on up to 8 person occupancy. The rate is negotiable for stays longer than 2 weeks. We require a £100 deposit to secure rental dates. Remaining balance of stay to be paid I month in advance of start of rental. £50 security deposit returned within two weeks of end of stay.

'The dar is clean and spacious with plenty of bathrooms and a lovely sheltered roof terrace for sun bathing and relaxing. The kitchen is extremely well equipped too. There's much hilarity to be had with Karima, who speaks no English and only a little French, if you take a Moroccan Arabic phrase book, and engage her in conversation as she prepares a delicious meal.
