This luxurious 4 bedroom townhouse is located in the popular town of Essaouira on the Atlantic Coast in Morocco. The spacious living area includes an open plan kitchen-dining room which is fully equipped for self-catering and for the housekeeper to cook our guests delicious Moroccan tagines and couscous from our in-house menu. A comfortable salon with open fire has views over the town of Essaouira. Four en-suite bedrooms are located over three floors all with views of Essaouira and the spacious roof terrace offers spectacular panoramic views of the town and faces the sea. The terrace has dining furniture which is perfect for al fresco breakfast or dining on the warm Moroccan evenings and sun loungers for soaking up the Essaouiran sunshine on a beautiful day! Essaouira itself is packed with great restaurants, as and well as plenty of shops and places of historical interest. The beach is located within an easy walk of Dar Doughri and offers fantastic water sports facilities.

Notes on prices
The above price is based on up to 8 person occupancy, exclusive use of Dar Doughri and a daily maid service. The price is negotiable for stays longer than 2 weeks. For 7 day rentals a 15% discount is offered to a group of 2 guests or less. Payments by personal cheque, international online transfer in GBP or PayPal. Please note all transfer charges are the responsibility of the renter.

Families with children of all ages welcome. We have a highchair, Chicco travel cot, baby monitor and stair gate available.
Broadband internet access: free of charge. Airport transfers - please ask for a quote. Winter bookings the first load of logs included, additional loads @ 100MAD per load payable to Fouad.

We are wheelchair inaccessible and unsuitable for the elderly or infirm due to stairs.
Outside
Private roof terrace with a large pergola and eating/lounging area is perfect for al fresco breakfast lunch and dinner and sunbathing and reading. Sunshine bathes the terrace all day and there is plenty of space for the sun loungers. Panoramic views of the Beach and Medina.
Coast/Beach
The beach is a 500m walk and there are swimming pools in local hotels that allow non residents nearby. The 15km long beach will allow you plenty of space to sunbath, read, swim and play beach sports. You can secure yourself a sunbed and umbrella if you need it and the public toilets are well managed. If you have young children you can enjoy the secure play areas with swings and slides dotted along the beach. The costal breeze rarely allows the temperature to get above mid 30's.

Nearest airport: Marrakech at 180km. Nearest ferry port: Agadir at 180km. Nearest railway station: Marrakech at 160km. Car hire can be arranged for transfer and excursions.
Distances
UNESCO World Heritage Site town of Essaouira has family adventures to offer including dune buggies, horse safaris and camel riding, hiking, kite-surfing, swimming, tennis, sailing, cycling, fishing, windsurfing, and mountain biking. The Portuguese ramparts and a small fishing port, the cresent shaped beach, lively Medina (walled city), the internationally acclaimed restaurants and cafes, and swimming pools provide many places to explore.

Dar Doughri is a short walk through Bab Marakesh for entry into the ancient Medina (walled town) - see pics.
There are plenty and fruit, vegetables, meats, spices and fresh fish to purchase but restaurants along the beach or in the Medina also offer a variety of Moroccan, French and Italian cuisine.
In the souks you will find hidden gems in leather, silver, and ceramics and there are no motorised vehicles allowed inside the Medina, which gives it a very hassle free atmosphere.
There are a number of banks, bakers, village shops and pharmacies a short walk from Dar Doughri as are the three hotel swimming pools in the town which are open to non residents.
Booking notes
A booking contract will need to be signed and returned. 25% booking deposit is needed to secure the booking. £100 damage deposit required with final balance. This is refunded within 2 weeks of end of rental period. All payment in pounds sterling. Payment by sterling cheque, online transfer in sterling to HSBC (First Direct) bank account or Paypal.
Guest comments
We were met by Fouad whom I had spoken to earlier to advise what time we were likely to arrive. What a lovely man he is - so friendly and always on hand to help. He popped by several times to see if there was anything we needed and he arranged for myself and my daughters to have berber massage and also the transport home on the Saturday. Karima was lovely also but we did not see so much of her as we only booked 1 dinner and 1 breakfast to be cooked at the house. She also did some washing for me which she had to take somewhere else as the washing machine at the house was broken.
The house was in a fantastic location - close to the medina, sea and shops - the roof terrace was a fantastic place to relax and we really did just chill out - going for walks on the beach but not doing much else. The Holdsworth Family (August 2011)

About the owner
Our bond with Morocco stems from many tales of my grandparents living in Demnate in the Atlas Mountains during the Second World War. They were Christian missionaries and opened their house to orphans and all in need of help in the village before my grand father was interned by the Nazis in Casablanca and then returned to the UK with his family. We are a married couple with two young children and fell in love with Essaouira while on holiday there in 2007 and could not resist the exotic pull of North Africa and bought Dar Doughri in February 2008.
