Closer to Montbard villas is the Parc Buffon, which is named after the 18th Century Polymath, Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon, who lived in Montbard and is an important figure in the town’s history. The park features a number of buildings established by Buffon, including an Orangery, which now houses a museum devoted to this figure. Heading north from self-catering gites in Montbard, you’ll come to the town of Chatillon sur Seine, which is home to one of the region’s most important archaeological hauls. Discovered in 1953, the Treasure of Vix dates back 2,600 years and was buried with a princess. You can see the treasure, including a precious tiara, on display at a museum in the town. The city of Dijon is also relatively close to accommodation in Montbard, and boasts numerous 15th Century buildings.
