Changeover day
Changeover day is Monday. Booking period is from 13.00 arrival day and 9am on the day of departure.

Outside
The spacious south facing terrace has 4 sunbeds, a large round table with 6 chairs and a further table with 4 chairs. Flower pots with local plants. The west facing balcony has 4 chairs and a table. BOth are sheltered and well lit at night given a lovely spacious feeling to the apartment.
Coast/Beach
Madeira as such does not have beaches as it is a volcanic rock. Canico de Baixo, the coastal resort just below Garajau has fresh water and sea water swimming pools. It is an 8 minute drive along the new road linking Garajau to Canico de Baixo.
Golf
Golfers will be pleased to know that the 18 hole, 72 par Palheiro golf, is no more than a 10 minute drive. Classic Madeiran hills, ridges and deep valleys have all been incorporated into the terrain to produce a dramatically interesting course, with stunning views. English is the main language in the club house.
The spectacular 27-hole Santo da Serra golf course [also known as Campo de Golfe and home to the Madeira Island Open ] is also within easy reach. This is Madeira’s oldest golf course. It sits high up on a plateau and is marvelously scenic with inspirational views back up the mountains and out over the Atlantic below. For more information check www.madeira-golf.com
Travel
Funchal airport is about a 15 minute drive, north of Garajau. Planes never fly over the resort as they land and take-off to the north. Car hire is not essential as taxis and busses are available within walking distance - bus stop outside apartment, taxi rank in the next street. Some people do not like to drive themselves as the terrain is very mountainous. Funchal the city is also 15 minutes drive west from Garajau.
Distances
Canico, the nearest large town is 3kms east & in front Canico de Baixo the costal holiday resort is just 2km. Ponta do Garajau with a fine miradouro - a statue of Christ with outstretched arms with new Lido is within walking distance. This is a wonderful spot to watch the sun go down and it has great views west to the Bay of Funchal. The Garajau coastline is also a conservation area and was one of Europe's first underwater nature reserves, providing sanctuary for whales, dolphins and seals.
Further details
In Garajau, there are several restaurants, serving Madeiran specialties e.g. esparda (fish) and espatada (meat), bars, cafes and coffee bars, ice cream parlors and a few patisseries, 2 hypermarkets and a medium sized well stocked supermarket with ATM outside. 2 car rental outlets plus 2 nearby small shops for basic groceries and fresh vegetables. A local bakery and an excellent pizza house. Most of the local taxi drivers speak good English and offer island tours.
Hiking & Walking
Garajau is a good location from where one can hike and walk the islands amazing levada irrigation system spanning 2,500km which meander round the mountains. We recommend you use Tony of Turivema - check it out on www.madeira-levada-walks.com.
Entertainment
For a really superb nights entertainment which includes dinner, drinks and a truly professional floor show try the Pestana Casino in Funchal. Shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There is a different show on each of the three nights. To book call 291 20 91 80. www.pestanagroup.com.
Locally in Garajau there is entertainment nightly in the Don Pedro Hotel. It is worth just popping in there and picking up their program for the week, then on route from a restaurant in the evening you can pop in, if something takes your fancy, or just for a night cap.
Booking notes
Booking forms direct from the owners, available by post/email. £100 deposit is required to reserve the apartment. Balance due 6 weeks before departure. Rate is £375 for property per week when 2 people share. £425 for property when 3 - 4 share. There is no variation across the seasons. If you do not get a response within 48 hours, please telephone us.
