The small village of Jardim do Mar looks out to sea at the foot of spectacular cliffs. It is 45 minutes drive from the airport on the sunny southwest-facing shore. This tranquil unspoilt village of old stone houses, narrow cobbled streets and lush gardens is widely considered one of the most beautiful on the island. It is noted for its world class surfing and has two friendly bars, a restaurant, a village shop and a library offering free internet access. A new car park at the edge of the village has enabled it to be largely pedestrianised, with a 1km long seafront traffic free promenade lined with palm trees. The little harbour has a slipway for small boats, a clean pebble beach for swimming and snorkelling, and a beach bar. The nearby village of Calheta (5 minute drive) has a sandy bathing beach, shops, several restaurants and a marina where whale and dolphin watching or fishing excursions can be arranged. Some of the island's finest scenery and walking are within a 20 minute drive.

Accessibility
The accommodation is on the first floor with the use of an elevator but is not adapted for people with serious mobility problems.
Coast/Beach
The village has two pebble beaches for swimming which are within 5 minutes walk.

Airport is 45 minutes drive. A hire car is virtually essential.

This was one of the nicest apartments we have ever stayed in. It was like home from home, very well equipped, very comfortable and ideally situated to enjoy true Madeiran village life.
