The apartment is situated on the popular Estrada Monumental almost opposite the Forum Madeira shopping centre. It has both wonderful sea views and a view of the mountains. It is on the 4th floor accessed by lift and is suitable for the elderly. There are security gates and a secure door entry system with cameras. Located within the landscaped gardens is an infinity swimming pool with showers and a large terrace complete with sun loungers and parasols. Beach towels are supplied. The city centre is easily accessible either by taxi, by the frequent bus service (approx. 10 minute journey) or by walking (approx. 30 minutes). Airport buses also stop at the bus stop which is located immediately outside the main gate.

We can accept payment in either sterling or euros by cheque, Pay Pal or bank transfer.

Our minimum stay is 7 days but we are happy to accept bookings for extra days. The daily rate will be charged pro-rata to the weekly rate.

Changeover day
Our changeover day is flexible. Please contact us with your requirements.

Apartment available from 2 p.m. on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 10 a.m.

Bedrooms: The master bedroom has a king size bed (5 ft wide) as well as fitted wardrobes and an en-suite bathroom with shower cubicle, wc and basin and a balcony with sea view. The second bedroom is twin bedded, also with fitted wardrobes.
Bathrooms: En-suite bathroom in master bedroom is fully tiled with shower cubicle, wc and basin.

The family bathroom, also fully tiled, comprises a bath with overhead shower, shower screen, wc, basin and bidet.
Kitchen: The fully equipped kitchen benefits from a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, microwave, and electric cooker with gas hob. There is also a kitchen table with 4 chairs.
Utility Room: Adjoining the kitchen, there is a laundry/utility room with washer/dryer, laundry box, iron and ironing board. There is a portable airer as well as retractable drying facilities.
Living Rooms: The spacious lounge has modern furnishings with a 42” flat screen wall mounted TV connected to Cable (some English channels) and a DVD/CD player. It leads onto a balcony with a view of the sea and Cabo Girau. There is also a dining table with 6 chairs.
Other: The inner hall contains a built in wardrobe ideal for storing coats, shoes etc. The balcony has a wicker table with 4 chairs
Cleaning/towels/

Towels and bed linen are included and are changed weekly. The apartment is also cleaned on a weekly basis.

A selection of books and dvds are available but we suggest you bring your own cds.

Please note we operate a strict "NO SMOKING" policy, which we regret has to include smoking on the balconies as smoke blows in and permeates the soft furnishings.

Children over 12 are welcome.

A 25% deposit is required on booking with the balance payable 6 weeks prior to arrival.

You will be met on arrival by our English speaking representative who will answer any queries you may have about the apartment or places to visit.

Outside
Located within the landscaped gardens is a shared infinity swimming pool with showers and a large terrace complete with sun loungers and parasols. Beach towels are supplied. There is ample parking within the secured gates should you wish to hire a car.



There is a dedicated parking space in the communal garage area.

Coast/Beach
There is a promenade walk along the sea 5 minutes walk from the apartment. The nearest beach is Praia Formosa which is pebbly and is a further 10 minutes on foot. There is a public lido about 10 minutes walk away where there are also natural rock pools popular with serious swimmers (please see also photograph).

Golf
There are two fantastic and challenging Golf courses- Palherio - 15mins drive - and Santo de Serra - 30mins drive from the apartment.

Travel
Madeira International Airport is situated about 30 minutes drive from the apartment. Airport buses (approx. journey time 40 minutes) stop outside the apartment gate. Alternatively, we can arrange a taxi transfer from our regular and reliable taxi firm.

Car hire is not essential as Funchal is easily accessible by either taxi or by the frequent bus service (approx. 10 minute journey) or by walking (approx. 30 minutes). Local shops & restaurants are 5 minutes walk.

Distances
Opposite the apartment is the new Madeira Forum shopping mall with a variety of shops, including a supermarket, multi-screen cinema (most films with English dialogue), banking facilities and a food court. There are also many good restaurants within walking distance as well as a coastal promenade, public lido (swimming complex) and pebbly beach.

Further details
There are local hotels nearby where a varied choice of entertainment can be found, including Madeiran folk-dancing, magic shows, singers etc.

Funchal is a delight to wander around, more like a town than a city, with lots of museums, a marina, parks, bars and restaurants and - of course, lots of little shops to explore! At festival times, there are frequent performances of live music as well as Madeiran folk music and dancing which make for a lovely atmosphere.

The trip on the cable car from Funchal up to Monte is not to be missed, giving fantastic views over the city and surrounding areas. When you get there, you can wander around the world famous church of Our Lady of Monte or visit the spectacular Monte Palace Tropical Gardens.

Guest comments
The apartment was more than we expected - the photos looked good but the actual apartment surpassed those. Very well equipped, clean and well presented. The welcome pack was much appreciated. Set in a gated location with a beautiful pool and gardens. Easy access to Funchal with a regular bus service a car is not necessarily needed unless you want to travel the island. Excellent shopping Mall right opposite the apartment - try the take away cafe if you want a very cheap meal! Andy H - Somerset.

About the owner
Although we now live in England, we lived in this apartment for 16 months when we took a sabbatical from work. Our plans are to retire here in the near future and it has been furnished and equipped as a home rather than a holiday let.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
The apartment has a lovely spacious feel to it with lovely sea views from the lounge and master bedroom and views of the hills from the twin bedded room. As we don't have a car, it was important to have all the local amenities only a few minutes walk away, including a supermarket, multi-screen cinema (most films with English dialogue), banking facilities and a food court. There is also a very good mix of restaurants to suit all budgets and taste. We particularly like the family run restaurants where the food is cooked to order. It's a very pleasant walk down into the city centre which is more like a town than a city with lots of little back streets to explore.
