Lanzarote Holiday Travel Guide
Lanzarote is a Spanish Island and part of the Canary Islands, which are roughly 80 miles from the coast of Africa. The Island is in the Atlantic Ocean and benefits from warm climates and plenty of sun for large parts of the year.
The island has been principally formed from volcanic sediment solidifying and nearly all the rocks on the island will have come from a volcanic origin. This gives Lanzarote a unique composition in terms of the lurid landscape and activities on offer.
There are only 140,000 inhabitants of Lanzarote but this significantly grows during peak seasons when visitors and tourists come to visit the Island’s unique attractions and features. The resorts are a great place to soak up the sun and have some quality ‘you’ time. The busiest resorts include:
- Puerto Del Carmen – The busiest resort on the Island can be found on the East Coast. There are a number of restaurants and bars and some beautiful beaches. The old town has a fishing port and serves a number of local and traditional cuisines.
- Playa Blanca – The second busiest resort started life as a fishing village on the south of the Island. It is now a haven of luxury boats, nightlife and Marina lifestyle. Ferries from here to Fuerteventura can be taken for great excursions.
- Costa Teguise – Another popular resort situated towards the north of the Island. You’ll find a number of four and five star hotels in this area and the hospitality here is to match. The main beach is known for windsurfing and the sand is beautiful and white for those looking to relax.
The tourism industry in Lanzarote started in the 1960s after the first hotel was built and subsequently the international airport that brings in thousands of tourists from around the world each year. There really is something to do for everyone, so if you are looking to visit there are plenty of villas and apartments in Lanzarote to choose from.
