Just across the Scottish Border, 19 miles north of Carlisle you will find Langholm. This is located in Dumfriesshire in southern Scotland and is the first reasonable sized town that you travel through after crossing the border. The town is nestled at the confluence of Ewes Water and the River Esk and the remains of the Langholm Castle that once stood here can still be seen. Langholm cottages offer all of the attractions that you would expect from a border town, and the cottages in Langholm are equipped with everything you could need for an enjoyable holiday experience.
The first, and now ruined castle was built here in the 1500’s and formed the centre of the settlement that soon developed around it. A second castle was constructed in the style of a tower house, this still stands and has become part of a hotel development. Apartments in Langholm make a great base for exploring the surrounding area, and in fact all of the holiday accommodation in Langholm offers access to the region and places you in the heart of this beautiful border region.
The town is very proud of its most famous son, Thomas Telford, the pioneering engineer who set about transforming the country of his birth with fabulous bridges, road systems and canals. Here you will find roads and buildings that bear his name, and a small wall which he built when he was an apprentice in this town still stands. Holiday rentals in Langholm are a great way to enjoy a family holiday in this beautiful region. Once you have been out and about and toured the area, met the locals and experienced the warm Scottish hospitality you will realise that booking one of the many holiday homes in Langholm for your break was the best decision you could have made.
