Laconia self-catering holiday villas are found in the south east of the Peloponnese surrounded on three sides by sea, the Mediterranean, the Laconian Gulf and the Myrtoan Sea. With so much sea and beach available close to Laconia holiday apartments it is not surprising that there are ample opportunities for scuba diving, wind surfing, sailing and fishing within in very easy reach. The main city for accommodation in Laconia is Sparti, the original site of Sparta, which as well as having some fascinating ruins like the South Gate of the Acropolis, known as Lakedaemonia, the Rotunda, the Theatre and the Temple of Athena Chalkioikos, also has some shops, banks and a number of very good restaurants and tavernas.
A little further afield Kalata is well worth a visit while staying in a self-catering holiday villa in Laconia; there are numerous cultural events and festivals there throughout the year and Kalamata Castle’s magnificent amphitheatre is still used for performances. Kalamata also has a beautiful Byzantine church but that said there are around 200 such churches dotted around small towns and villages in the area of Lanonia rental apartments. Another place worth visiting while staying in a holiday home in Laconia is the ruins of ancient Messini, which was founded in 369BC and gives an amazing insight into Greece in bygone days.
