The town of Angouleme is a matter of minutes from La Rochefoucauld holiday cottages. It boasts a picturesque old town, with cobbled streets and a number of cosy restaurants, all surrounded by medieval ramparts. The cathedral here is stunning, dating to the 1100s and designed in the Romanesque style. Downstream along the Charente river, and about 60 kilometres west of La Rochefoucauld self-catering farmhouses is the town of Cognac, famed for the spirit produced in the area. The old quarter is lovely here, boasting a variety of buildings dating from the 1400s to 1700s. During your trip to this historic town you could visit one of the many Caves or vineyards devoted to the local speciality. The more immediate are surrounding holiday villas in La Rochefoucauld is perfectly suited to outdoor recreation, with plenty of opportunities for scenic walks, bike or horseback rides.
