La Gacilly holiday accommodation is located in and near a village in the Brittany department of Morbihan. This part of the region is known for its picturesque inland, dotted with historic towns and villages, and scenic coast, with countless small sandy beaches. A beautiful landmark a short drive from La Gacilly self-catering villas can be found in the medieval town of Josselin. Here the townscape is dominated by a forbidding fortified chateau, which sits on the bank of the Oust River and has elements that date back as far as the 12th Century. Visitors can enter the building and view the lavishly decorated interior. Slightly closer to La Gacilly cottages is the town of Rochefort-en-Terre, which is known for its beautiful center and numerous 17th Century buildings.
Perhaps the highlight of the area around La Gacilly gites is Carnac, and its famous megalithic site. It’s one of the most important on the continent and is composed of more than 3,000 standing dolmens and menhirs, alongside a number of other ancient landmarks, including massive burial mounds. The coast is just an hour from La Gacilly self-catering cottages, and some great beaches can be found here, in a climate that is slightly warmer than the rest of the region. Locmariaquer to the southwest is a charming village with some lovely stretches of sand along its coastline. A popular activity in South Brittany is to take excursions to the numerous islands that lie off the coast – Ile Houat and Ile aux Moines and Belle Ile are all worth exploring. Closer to your La Gacilly villa are a number of lakes that also boast beaches – Carentoir and Lac au Duc are just two examples.
