There are also some interesting historical buildings to discover not far from cottages in Kinsale. Charles Fort is found minutes away in Summercove and was constructed in the 1600s. Desmond Castle is a little older, dating from the 1500s, and served as a prison and later a workhouse during the Famine. Kinsale self-catering farmhouses are no more than 20 kilometres from the beautiful City of Cork, which boasts excellent amenities for shopping, as well as a wealth of Georgian architecture to admire.
