Tiwi House is tucked into a gentle curve of the beach at the north end of Tiwi beach. The property consists of a fully furnished and equipped four-bedroom house, with a swimming pool between verandah and beach. The house has an amazing ocean landscape. We have our own private steps down coral cliffs to a quiet beach. Tiwi House sleeps 9 in 4 bedrooms that have their own individual bathrooms with ceiling fans, some air conditioning and a full staff. Holiday letting is all the year round including Easter, Christmas and the New Year. Relax, swim in sea or pool, sunbathe, go sightseeing and shopping in Diani; snorkelling, diving, bird-watching, sailing, water sports and deep sea fishing are all available; a 40 minute drive takes you to the Shimba Hills Game Park and lodge; an hour and a half to Shimoni and the Maritime Park.

Notes on accommodation
Not ideal for toddlers unless supervised, it is very open and the pool is almost integral with the house which is architect designed and designer furnished. Ideally suited to extended families and two or three families that like to holiday together.

The house is not equipped for disabled use but wheelchair users will find the ground floor accommodation very accessible with only a few shallow steps to negotiate.
Outside
You approach the house down a bush track followed by an avenue of palms and ancient frangipani trees with their white blossoms overhead. Neem trees shade the steps leading down the coral gardened cliff to the sandy beach; there is heavenly swimming at most tide heights and at low tide one can walk either up the reef to the Sand Island and beyond or south to the Tiwi river that separates Tiwi beach from Diani beach. Over the river can be seen and visited the atmospheric Kongo Mosque which was built between the 14th and 15th centuries and, having been recently restored is used for worship. The gardens are being developed and being well maintained by Mbwana and Mfaki. The grass is kept short and there are many exotic flowering trees and shrubs. There might be our own coconuts or citrus fruit for you to enjoy. There is a breakfast terrace outside the house and very large outdoors table beside the swimming pool.
Coast/Beach
The beach is on your doorstep under one minute away down stone steps cut into the coral cliff. The sand is beautifully white; the sea recedes over the reef at low tide and swimming is gentle.
Golf
There is a good 18 hole golf course at Diani, half an hour's drive distant.

How to get there
Mombasa's Moi International Airport is one and a half hour's drive away across the Likoni ferry. The Ukunda airstrip for local flights and private charters is a 30 minutes drive. Car hire is not essential but recommended.
Distances
A ten minute drive takes you to Tiwi village for very local small shops and stalls. Diani, a popular European tourist destination is 12 kilometres (25 minutes) drive away to the south. There you will find banks, restaurants, supermarkets, boutiques, bars, discos, casinos, car rental, hospitals, dentists and any number of roadside stalls.
Further details
Shimba Hills Game Park and Lodge is 45 minutes drive up into some slightly cooler and less humid hills. The Shimoni/Kisite Marine Park is one and a half hours away to the south. A huge variety of safaris to all the game parks can be arranged at the Diani Safari agents. Almost all will start by collecting you from your door.
Booking notes
All bookings should be made with the owner. To confirm the rental dates a 50% non-refundable deposit is payable on booking with the balance due 6 weeks before the holiday. In the event of cancellation less than 8 weeks beforehand, the whole amount will be due. We do not provide any form of travel insurance and recommend that you take out your own travel insurance. We can assist you with any bookings - local transfers, safaris, excursions, transport etc. Please contact Owner for payment methods.

What an extraordinary stay, in a magical place. To arrive here is in a way to have arrived. We lack for nothing, the soothing pacific waves breaking on the reef, long deep sleeps gave a totally relaxing and refreshing experience. I am recharged!

About the owner
We live in England but spend a great deal of our time in Kenya, where we have made friends and enjoy the country. We love Tiwi for the private nature of its beach; the Kisite Marine Park boasts some of the best snorkelling and fun scuba diving there is. Nearby Diani has some very good restaurants. There really is something for everyone here. The area is easily accessible with Ukunda airport less than 35 minutes drive away and 90 minutes to Moi International at Mombasa. The property is absolute barefoot luxury!
