Travel Guide of Kadikalesi (Bodrum, Aegean, Turkey)
Kadikalesi is a stunning area of Turkey, and refreshingly traditional compared to the country's more tourist-led resorts. It's just a few kilometres away from lively Turgutreis, and yet booking holiday accommodation in Kadikalesi is like travelling to a wholly different world. It's surrounded by fragrant citrus groves, and boasts an unspoilt, golden beach; its ancient castle stands majestically over the town, and there are numerous Greek churches to explore.
If you do want to travel outside of town, there's a dolmus that travels to Bodrum and Turgutreis - but considering how beautiful villas in Kadikalesi are, it's unlikely you'll want to go anywhere fast.
Things to do in Kadikalesi
Tourists primarily choose holiday rentals in Kadikalesi for spectacular sandy beaches. Much of the activity here is centred around the water front, with an array of restaurants and bars where you can relax and watch the world go by. Evenings are occupied by sampling traditional Turkish fare, including Mezes of stuffed vine leaves, fresh fish and raki, an aniseed flavoured drink similar to Greek ouzo. If you do want to get active, you could always try windsurfing and sailing, or hiking into the surrounding pine forests.
Places to see in Kadikalesi
Most holiday homes in Kadikalesi are within easy reach of major tourist attractions, as dolmus buses travel to Bodrum every day. A trip to the city is worthwhile if you want to explore a traditional Turkish market, or fancy a change of pace from laid-back, tranquil Kadikalesi. Dedeman Aqua Park is also nearby, and boasts dozens of slides, chutes and rides. But if you're happy to just relax amidst olive groves and pine forests, there's surely no better destination than peaceful Kadikalesi.
