This lovely medieval house is situated in the centre of the beautiful village of Petroio. Petroio is surrounded by open country and olive groves and has extensive views to Montalcino and Pienza. There are marked hiking trails from the house in all directions and wine tasting at some of Italy's most famous vineyards. The house is in the heart of the village near to the church and contains a living room, dining room and kitchen on the first floor with two double bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor as well as open fires. The jewels of Tuscany are all a few minutes drive away: Pienza, Montepulciano, the Val d'Orcia, Montalcino, as well as the beautiful abbeys of Sant'Anna in Camprena and Monte Olivetti Maggiore. Siena, Arezzo, Cortona and San Gimignano are all within a day's trip. There is a lovely open-air swimming pool in the neighbouring village. Petroio itself has a food shop, a post office and a four star restaurant and bar. A perfect base to explore the real Tuscany.

Changeover day
Saturday to Saturday bookings requested. Arrival after 2pm and departure before midday. Short term bookings (weekends etc) also considered.

| Bedrooms: | Bedroom 1 has double bed, wardrobe and bedside tables. Bedroom 2 has two single beds (which can be put together to form one large double bed), a chest of drawers with mirror and two bedside tables. Both rooms spacious with space for cots, extra beds etc. |

| Kitchen: | Newly fitted kitchen has electric hob and oven, Belfast style sink and oak work surfaces with cupboards and a fridge. The dining room next door has a large family table which can seat 6, an open fire, pine unit and shelves. There is also a larder. |

Travel
Florence airport is approximately an hour and a half away. Rome and Pisa are about two hours' away. Rental car is recommended.

There are numerous places of interest within driving distance of the house including Montepulciano and Pienza which are 10 km away. Montalcino is 20 km away. Siena is about 50 km distance and Florence is 90 km away. The stunning abbey of Sant'Ana in Camprena is 5km away with the abbey of Monte Olivetti 30 mins drive. Cortona is 50 kilometres away.

The property is in the heart of wine-tasting country and some of Tuscany's most famous vineyards are only a few minutes drive away. For those who enjoy hiking this is perfect walking country with numerous marked trails leading out of the village of Petroio and across open Tuscan countryside. Art lovers will enjoy the nearby cities of Florence, Pisa and Siena. There is a lovely open-air swimming pool in the next village - a 5 minute drive - for those wishing to relax. The countryside is dotted with stunning medieval abbeys and hilltop villages. Food lovers will be in their element with highly recommended restaurants in Pienza also famous for its pecorino cheese. There are also lovely restaurants in and around Montelpulciano. During the summer there are food festivals in many of the hamlets, serving local Tuscan cuisine and the region is famous for its olive oil, red wine, cheeses, and salami.

About the owner
My wife and I live and work in Rome, Italy after having left our careers at the BBC in London. We have two beautiful holiday homes - each one very special in its own way. Busatica is high up in the hills in northern Tuscany with views of the mountains. Petroio is in the heart of southern Tuscany in a village surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. We love them both - each is peaceful and a great place to unwind, experience nature and ease away the stresses of the city.
