All bathrooms and kitchens are modern and fully equipped. This is a wonderful place to just unwind, enjoy the unobstructed views or take a dip in the fabulous pool. Secluded, yet only minutes away from restaurants, shops and within 1 hour’s driving time to cities such as Perugia, Assisi, Spoleto, Arezzo, Gubbio, Castiglione del Lago and Cortona. Overlooking a beautiful valley, the estate is totally private with 40 acres of fruit and olive trees and an organic garden providing fresh vegetables and spices during your stay. The house and cottage can be rented separately or together to provide total accommodation up to 10 to 12 people.

Umbrian Olive Experience - November / December. This is olive picking and pressing time in Umbria and on the Cai Meli estate. You will have the opportunity to help (just a little) with the Olive picking, still all done traditionally by hand. Visit the Olive Mill, watch the pressing, and taste what the first pressing of olive oil is like.

Cai Meli Cottage (2 bedrooms, sleeps 4)

| This romantic cottage has a double bedroom upstairs in the tower, and a twin bedroom and bathroom downstairs. A second bathroom is being installed on the upper floor during the winter. All beds have excellent orthopedic mattresses. A baby cot is also available on request. The cosy lounge has a comfortable sofa and chairs, a satellite flat screen LCD TV and a DVD. The main living room is a very spacious dining/kitchen room that has a modern kitchen area with a gas oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, toaster and café/espresso machine. The dining area has a large traditional farmhouse dining table for 6 and there is also a breakfast bar with two stools. Just outside the main door is a private covered terrace with dining table and chairs and a barbeque. There is a washing machine and steam iron with ironing board provided. On arrival you will find a complimentary bottle of organic olive oil pressed from our own olives. Wi-fi internet access is available on the property. | |
Notes on accommodation
Linen and towels are changed weekly. Pool towels are also provided. The house and cottage are cleaned for your arrival and their is a maid service mid week at no extra charge if required. There is a washing machine in the cottage and a separate laundry room for guests in the main house. In the colder months central heating is available in both houses at extra charge. Dogs are allowed but please book ahead and there will be an additional charge. Babysitting is also available at an extra charge.
A bottle of our own olive oil is provided with our compliments and our gardener will bring you plenty of fresh vegetables and herbs during your stay from our organic garden.
Wi-fi internet access is available on the estate.

Outside
Both the house and cottage have private terraces with lovely views across the olive grove and the valley beyond. Situated 30m from the house is a superb infinity edge pool (17x4m), with loungers on a wooden deck along one side, semi-immersed among an olive grove. This is a really beautiful spot to just relax and enjoy the sun and the views. A farm building near the pool has been cleverly converted into a covered lounging area with mattresses on a raised wooden platform. There is also a fridge to keep cool drinks so this is a great place to get in from the sun and relax in comfort after a swim or sun bathing. The 40 acre hillside estate includes olive, cherry and nut groves with plenty of space to walk and find a quiet spot under the trees. There is also an organic garden providing fresh vegetables and spices during your stay.

Travel
Perugia airport 30 mins. Ancona airport 2 hours. Bologna Forli airport 1˝ hour. Florence airport 2 hours. Pisa and Rome airport 3 hours. The closest airports are served by Ryan Air and their Perugia service from Stansted started in December 2006. Easyjet fly into Pisa and Rome. All international airlines fly into Rome and some airlines fly into Florence. Car hire is best done at the airport and absolutely vital as the property is in the country with no public transport.
Distances
The nearest town of Umbertide is an 8 min drive and has an excellent supermarket and other shops, a weekly market and a railway station. Cai Meli is well placed for visiting famous Umbrian and Tuscan towns like Perugia 30 mins, Assisi 45 mins, Gubbio 40 mins, Cortona 50 mins, Sienna 90 mins and Florence 2 hours and the towns around Lago Trasimeno 40 mins. There is a train service from Umbertide into Perugia and good rail links to Rome and Florence from Terontola.
Further details
Around Cai Meli there are some great walks and hikes with the chance to see local wildlife, deer and wild pig and a superb view from the top of Monte Acuto. If you are a road or mountain biker there are terrific valleys and mountains to traverse up to 926m. On the other side of the mountain is Lago Trasimeno for sailing or taking a ferry to the island of Maggiore. There are festivals throughout the year; be it music (Umbria Jazz or Spoleto’s music festival), dance, local folk sangras and even Perugia’s chocolate festival. A quick internet search to the local tourist office will update you on everything that is happening (please contact for details). Lastly, if you are tired at the end of the day, there is an excellent restaurant with an outdoor terrace just a 5 min walk from the property.
Booking notes
Your booking is confirmed on receipt of a deposit of 25% of the total rental. The remaining 75% is payable 8 weeks before arrival, plus a returnable damage deposit of €300. In the case of a cancellation, there will be charges depending on the timing and these will be fully detailed in your booking form.
