Outside
Large (75m2) wooden roofed, tiled veranda to three sides of the villa, shaded and cool for alfresco dinning and safe play for children, terrace and garden with trees and herbs, all set in very quite, beautiful, unspoilt countryside with prickly pears, fig, aromatic juniper, myrtle, rosemary, cork oak and vineyards. Great sense of beauty, space and peace.
Coast/Beach
Local beach with crystal clear, shallow water and bar/pizzeria just over 0.5km walk. More beautiful sandy beaches are to be found within a short picturesque drive (5-20km): Sottotorre, Le Saline and Spiaggia Grande to the west, and Maladroxia to the east, on the Golfo di Palmas. These are family places, public, with free parking and beach facilities. There are almost no holiday villages or complexes, so the beautiful coast remains practically untouched.
Special interest holidays
Views and walks, safe family beaches with fantastic swimming, beach bars, boat hire, diving, bird watching, horse riding, archaeological sites, markets with local products and crafts, many festivals during the year. Great places of interest and activities to visit in the area (list and suggestions at the house).
Bring a pair of binoculars, there so many birds. Short drive away are lagoons on which you can see flamingos and many other wetland birds.
Bring along your fins, snorkel and mask and swim in some of the clearest waters in the Mediterranean Sea.
Enjoy a drive through countryside down to the dramatic scenery of the southern tip of the island, Capo Sperone, where an 18th century tower looks out to the three wild islets - the Bull, the Cow and the Calf, favourite territory for scuba-divers.
Travel
The Island of San Antioco is linked to the mainland of Sardinia by a road causeway, and lies one hour drive (90km) west of Cagliari. There are many flights from London airports – with BA, Meridiana, Easyjet and Altalia all flying to Cagliari.
Alternatively, Ryan Air fly to Alghero Airport which is about 270 kms from the house. Traffic is light so the drive is not too bad (allow 3 and a half hours). If we travel this way we normally stop at “Da Egisto”, a good restaurant.
Distances
The nearest town (5km) Calasetta, reminds us of Italy 20 years ago in the good sense, not commercial or touristy, people are friendly and have the time and inclination to help. Children are most definitely welcome. The area is devoted to fishing and agriculture, in particular to the making of some good strong red wine. San Antioco (8km) is a larger but still charming town.

At the house you find a small library and recommendations of our favourite restaurants and excursions, horse ridding stable, boat excursions or hire, and dive company.
