Situated at 500m above sea level, San Martin Pereto is a tiny hamlet in the north-west Umbrian hills, about 7 miles from the Tuscany border. Our spacious apartment is part of a large, stone-built farmhouse dating from 1688. We have retained the original ceiling beams; the hand-made doors and windows are of chestnut and the floors are tiled in the local style. The main door opens out on to a large, pretty terrace with stunning views over the surrounding valley. The small back terrace, with summer jasmine pergola, is accessed from the French windows in the living room. About 4 miles from Pereto is the village of Morra where we do our day-to-day shopping. There are 2 family supermarkets with delicatessen areas, a butcher, post office and bar. A pizzeria/restaurant has recently opened in the village, offering excellent, home-cooked food. As well as the 12th century church, there is the Oratorio of San Crescentino with 16th century frescoes by Luca Signorelli.

Travel
A car is essential. Driving distances from the airports:- Perugia, 45 mins. Forli, 2 hours. Pisa and Rome, 3 hours.
Distances
Morra is our nearest village with facilities, about 4 miles down the hill. The small town of Trestina is 10 miles away and our nearest hill town, Citta di Castello, is 15 miles away. Our proximity to the Umbria/Tuscany border allows easy access to Tuscan tourist destinations: Siena, Florence. There is an excellent rail service from Arezzo to Rome, a journey of about l hour, 45 minutes, so day trips are possible. (Bear in mind that there is a charge for using the Arezzo railway car park.)
Further details
There are large supermarkets at Trestina and also at Citta di Castello, a medieval hill town which offers a variety of shops, banks, restaurants and bars as well as a twice-weekly market on Thursdays and Saturdays. Castello holds an antique/retro fair on the third weekend of the month. Festivals, exhibitions and concerts are organised during the year in the surrounding towns and villages; details can be found in the excellent tourist information centre in Castello main piazza. Local amenities include swimming pools at Citta di Castello, Umbertide and Castiglion Fiorentino, with boats for hire at Lake Trasimeno. Our immediate locality is ideal for walking, hilly, but not too steep. It is very much an agricultural area; the local people are self-sufficient with large kitchen gardens for growing vegetables, salads, fruit, etc. Small animals are reared for food. The local wildlife includes deer, wild boar, a variety of birds and the odd snake. North-west Umbria is a most beautiful region, totally unspoilt and within reach of many interesting locations.
