The property has 2 double bedrooms (one with balcony) a single bedroom, a living/dining room with open fireplace, TV room, kitchen, bathroom and central heating. Casa Castagna is a characterful cottage with chestnut beams and terracotta-tiled floors. Our next door neighbours (Anna and Sergio) run a bakery where you can get your freshly baked Tuscan bread, ham, cheeses (longlife) milk and jams etc. On Sundays they also bake foccacia and pizza! Our local bar (Funicolare) is 1km away at the bottom of the hill.

Outside
Outside there is a lovely, flagstoned courtyard partially covered by a vine. There are two sunbeds, large patio table with 6 chairs and a BBQ.
From the courtyard there are some steps down into a small, irregular-shaped garden with fig, cherry, plum and apple trees. The lower garden areas house the gas and waste amenities.
Coast/Beach
The Versilian coast is a 40 minute drive where there are the buzzing cosmopolitan beach towns of Lerici and San Terenzo. A little further (about 60-90 mins) are Portovenere and the beautiful Cinque Terre both of which are accessible via boat from Lerici.
Skiing
Cerreto, a small but lively ski resort is 14 kms/25 mins drive north of the house. There is a large ice rink as well as many cafes, restaurants and shops.
Travel
Our house is conveniently served by 3 airports: Pisa (75 mins drive), Genoa and Parma (both 90 mins drive). Ryanair fly to all of these, BA and Thomson Fly both serve Pisa.
Car Hire is essential (try carhire3000.com for best deals).
Distances
Nearest town is Fivizzano which is 10 mins drive. Aulla is 30 mins drive, La Spezia 40 mins, Sarzana 40 mins, Lucca 1 hour, and Florence 2 hours. Both Lucca and Florence can be reached by train from Aulla.
Further details
The local town (Fivizzano) has several restaurants, cafes, minimarkets and various other shops and facilities including a hospital, banks and petrol stations. A weekly market is held on Tuesdays.
Verrucola, a medieval castle and borgo is on the road just before Fivizzano.
A public, open air swimming pool, a horse riding school and the Grottos of Equi Terme are all 15 mins drive away.
