Santa Giuliano is a south facing farmhouse in the Umbrian hills near the Tuscany border. The nearest town is Umbertide. Within easy reach are Cortona, Assisi, Perugia, Gubbio, Orvieto, Citta di Castello, Sansepolcro and Lake Trasimeno where one can enjoy a swim or take a ferry to one of the islands for lunch. The major cities of Rome, Siena, Pisa and Florence are but a couple of hours drive. The championship golf course of Antognola is a few minutes drive. The farmhouse has been carefully restored keeping the original terracotta floors and exposed oak beams. It has a large garden with vines and fruit trees and terrace with barbecue.

Travel
Perugia Airport now has 4 flights a week this is by far the best way to travel, there is also car hire and S.Giuliano is only about a half hour drive. Ancona, on the Adriatic coast (1.5 hour drive) Ryanair have very cheap flights from Stansted. It is also possible to fly to Rome, Bologna, Pisa or Florence.
Further details
Umbertide has a pleasant medieval centre and all the facilities of an Italian market town. There is a market every Wednesday to which local farmers bring their produce, from mounds of tomatoes and artichokes in the summer to baskets of wild mushrooms and chestnuts in the autumn. Connecting Umbertide to Perugia is 1 of the last private railways in Italy. A daily bus service to Rome is also available.
The area is a haven for wildlife - golden orioles, wild boar, porcupine and butterflies. Sheep graze in the nearby fields, their milk being used to make Peccorino cheese which is a regional speciality. There are many local wine producers where one may sample and purchase wines never encountered at home. The natural beauty would inspire the artist and nature lover. Monte Acuto is 900m above sea level and provides a challenging hike with the reward of a stunning panorama over the Apennines.
