Our prices included everything except heating in the cooler months and pool towels.
Changeover day
In line with other rentals our changeover day is Saturday (This makes a two-centre holiday possible). However, in the low season we can be more flexible so please ask.
Arrival time is after 5pm on Saturday and Departure 10am on the following Saturday.
Notes on accommodation
Central heating available in the cooler months, charged at cost per unit used. Insect screens on all windows, fans provided, No smoking in apartments. Sorry but not suitable for children and pets not allowed.
Accessibility
Il Melograno is suitable for guests who require their accommodation all on one level even the path from the car parking area is step-free. The shower is also equipped with a fold-down seat.
Outside
The grounds of Casa Valentina extend over many hectares with green lawns, mature trees, olive groves and orchards. There are countless planters overflowing with colour from the Spring to the Autumn. The 6 x 12 metre pool, (depth varies from 1.10m to 2.90m) has a large, natural-stone sun deck with sunloungers and chairs for you to enjoy both the sun and the views. It has an automatic summer cover and in this way the heat is conserved for a longer season. So serious swimming is possible here!
There is also a large, traditional brick-built barbeque set on a lovely shady dining terrace for guests use. There is plenty of space here for two or four. Secure, shady parking behind automatic gates.
Coast/Beach
Nearest beach - Southern Tuscany, Grosseto in 1 hour 30mins. However, there are 'beach resorts' on nearby Lake Trasimeno, Italy's fourth largest lake - just 20 minutes away.
Travel
Nearest airport - Florence 1.15hr. Rome 2.00hr. Perugia 1.00 hr. Pisa 1.45hr. Bologna (Forli) 2.00hr.
To get the best of all that Tuscany has to offer a car is recommended. Nearest motorway/autostrada exit - Val di Chiana - 20 minutes.
Distances
Camucia/Cortona 5-10 mins - with countless shops, banks, bars, restaurants, markets, train station, internet cafes, taxis and buses. Lake Trasimeno with boat trips to beautiful islands - 20 mins. Arezzo - 35 mins. Siena - 45 mins. Perugia - 45 mins. Florence - 1 hour, Montalcino - 1 hour, Montepulciano - 30 mins. Rome - 2 hours, Chianti - 1 hour.
Further details
Casa Valentina is next to a State archaeological park where numerous Etruscan and Roman antiquities have been found and are still being found. Roman remains have even been found in garden! From here there are also many wonderful walks (some easy and some more demanding) in the woods, along country lanes and even up to Cortona, via the beaten track, where you can see for around 50 miles - south to Lake Trasimeno to Monte Amiata beyond.
Cortona - the beautiful setting for 'Under the Tuscan Sun' (the book and the film) is under 10 minutes away - it hasn't been spoilt and it has everything you could need cafes, banks, restaurants, history, museums, shops etc...
The Internationally renown Music Festival every August and the exclusive antiques fair held every September.
Siena and Florence - each with a proud and different history are only an hour or so from Casa Valentina.
The Chianti Classico wine area and the timeless Tuscan hill towns of Montalcino, Montepulciano, Poppi, Anghiari and San Gimignano are all easy drives for the perfect Tuscan day - touring and tasting! You will not be disappointed!!
The St. Francis of Assisi trail - (Assisi itself is also easily reached from here in about an hour), Etruscan historical sites, the birthplaces and locations of many recorded scenes of Michelangelo, Piero della Francesca and Leonardo da Vinci.
The fantastic Arezzo antiques fair held on the first Sunday of every month and the Saturday before. The Arezzo Giostra del Saracino, a medieval re-enactment, with hundreds of costumed participants, held in June and September - similar to the Siena Palio but with Jousting not horse racing. The Siena palio held every July and August. Numerous International Music Festivals. Wine Tours. Truffle Hunting. Photographic Fair held twice a year in Arezzo.
Finally the fashion designer outlets of Prada, Gucci, D & G,
Ferragamo and Valentino and numerous others are all under an hour away by car. We'll give you the directions.
Booking notes
To confirm your booking we require a 25% deposit. The balance is then due on arrival. Our price includes everything except heating in the cooler months and pool towels in the Summer. A security deposit is a required, to cover any damage, any heating costs and extra cleaning costs because the property was not left reasonably clean and tidy on departure. Arrivals are generally between 5 and 9pm. If your week is booked please look at IT835, that also offers child free tranquility for twos.
