The Farm House with formal garden

Casa Rosa is a traditional stone farmhouse situated high in the green hills of Umbria, in the park of Mount Subasio, 6 miles north-east of Assisi. The house is divided into 3 apartments, each completely self-contained, 1 large apartment occupying the whole of the upper floor and 2 smaller apartments on the ground floor. It is surrounded by woods and farmland. Clear mountain streams form waterfalls and rock pools and these provide bathing possibilities in the summer. The enchanting small medieval city of Assisi has hardly changed in the last 500 years, and part of it remains as it was 750 years ago when St. Francis lived there. It also offers visitors good restaurants, shops, music, drama and, at the beginning of May, the spectacular spring celebration of 'Calendimaggio'.

A shower is built in to the stone wall at one end of the terrace. The formal gardens have terraces, patios and outdoor furniture. There is a barbecue and a traditional bread/pizza oven. This is an ideal place for relaxaton, peace and to get a way from it all. From Casa Rosa it is possible to take walks within the national park of Mount Subasio. Further details
The farm stands in a regional park, on a spur above a small river, with breathtaking views over the Tescio valley and across the hills to Mount Subasio. The owner, an English painter, lives on the premises. The immediate area is one of great natural beauty. The hills are covered by forest, mostly oak, and by small farms with their olive groves, pastures and fields of wheat, barley and oats. Far from any main road, it is a very quiet and peaceful place. For most of the day the only sound is the singing of birds and crickets and the river in the valley below.

The hills and forest hide martens, porcupine and wild boar, all of which have been seen on the farm. The wealth of bird life includes buzzards, goldfinches and hoopoes. In spring the meadows, fields and verges abound in wild flowers, among them poppies, cyclamen, wild gladioli, and many types of orchid. From May to July fireflies dance in the night, and through the summer the Farm is home to thirty varieties of butterfly. Along the river are waterfalls and natural pools where one can bathe in the summer. The hills, woods and valleys offer many possible routes for walking.

Shops and restaurants. Within easy reach of Casa Rosa there is a restaurant at ‘Agriturismo Le Querce’ (2 miles) and also at ‘Ristorante Da Giovannino’ (4 miles). A small supermarket is also nearby (4 miles). Larger supermarkets can be found at Assisi (6 miles), here you will also find banks post offices and a pharmacy.

Guest comments
'A perfect place for a weeks retreat from the noise and ugliness of London. We enjoyed the amazing scenery, spring flowers and birds singing, numerous walks as well as the delights of Assisi. We recommend Spello but were disappointed with Gubbio. Palm Sunday and Good Friday services at San Leonardo in Via Sant'Antonio Cristofani were a special treat in English. Thank you Gay for making us so welcome. We will recommend Casa Rosa to our friends and hope to come again for more of the silence and simplicity' - Dorothy and Peter 31/3/2007

'Rest and relaxation - our fifth year at Casa Rosa and each time it seems like coming home! Just so beautiful and peaceful' - Sheelagh and David 19/05/2007
