Podere Sant'Alessandro is an old Tuscan cottage with a panoramic view immersed in beautiful scenery, among woods, vineyards, medieval villages and castles. The structure has been just restored, but we didn’t want to modify its original architectural characteristics. It supplies with all modern comforts. The suite is independent and finely furnished with equipped kitchens, satellite TV, video recorder, heating, air conditioner, safes. Our swimming pool, surrounded by the garden in a panoramic position, is equipped with comfortable sun beds, tables and parasols. You can enjoy a night swimming below the stars thanks to our illumination system. The owner of the structure is Carlo Gilistro a paediatric doctor. He gave the management to his sons and grandsons. They will you know the taste of this beautiful land and will give you all the precious information about the very evocative and cultural paths about wine and food, especial events and festival. We are open all the year!

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in euros.
Prices include electricity, gas, water, linen and towels, final cleaning, private parking, charcoal for barbeque, weekly change of towels and linen, weekly cleaning, use of swimming pool, air conditioning (just in Monet or Picasso apartments).
In all accommodation:
Pets are welcome: 30 euros per week per pet.
Baby Cot - 2.50 euros per day.
Sofa Bed: 15 euros/day/child.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday but we can be flexible in case of problems.
Arrival time: from 2 p.m. untill 5 p.m
Departure time: untill 10 a.m.

Notes on accommodation
Podere Sant’Alessandro has recently been restored: the original architecture has not been altered, and now offers all modern comforts. We offer accomodation in five apartments each for 2 up to 8 people, all renewed and finely decorated.
All the apartments at your disposal have been recently restored, furnished in good taste to make you feel at home, and equipped with all modern comforts: satellite television, internet wireless connection, heating, strongbox, video recorder, DVD player, and a full range of household appliances.

Accessibility
All apartments have access from the ground floor so is easy to come inside also for old people or people with little mobility problems. But our property has not been specially constructed or adapted for wheelchair users.

Outside
Podere Sant’Alessandro is placed on a hill, 370 meters above sea level so you will enjoy a panoramic view on woods of holm oaks, oaks and mapletrees, olive-groves and wineyards in the estate of San Gimignanello, and the clayey hills of the Crete Senesi.
Our swimming pool, surrounded by the garden in a panoramic position, is equipped with comfortable sun beds, tables and parasols. You can enjoy a night swimming below the stars thanks to our illumination system.
Podere Sant’Alessandro includes a 2 hectar wineyard and 100 olives, a garden for spices and vegetables, cultivated by an expert farmer.
A barbecue by the gazebos is at your disposal.
You are so welcome to visit our small wine cellar. Here you will find an ancient winepress, still in use when we make wine during the vintage. An ideal place to exchange useful suggestions and impressions about your trip, having a glass of good wine and tasting the local food.

Coast/Beach
Follonica, Piombino and Cecina beaches are rispectively at 80 km, 100 km, 110 km. The Etruscan coast, from Leghorn up to the promontory of Piombino, is rocky as far as Castiglioncello, then turns in Cecina and Marina di Bibbona into a bay with sandy beaches (roughly 45 km long) until it reaches Baratti, where the hills of Piombino start. This coast is particularly popular for its mild climate, the clean sea, the bathing establishments separated by vast stretches of natural coast.

Golf
In a typical Tuscany rural atmosphere, the GOLF CLUB VALDICHIANA (18 km away from the Podere) offers a field of 9 holes. Near is the practical field where who wants learn to play could be under the careful guide and the supervision of master Sestilio Alfiero Pilgrims. The complete equipment from golf is also available. Here you will be able to put in field your love for the golf or makes you sedurre from this wonderful sport able to get passionate more and more persons of every age.

Amongst the many activities you may choose to do in this area, we suggest a visit in the near-by Terme di Rapolano (hot springs) and the Spas. Podere Sant'Alessandro is also a strategic spot to start several Wine and Food Tours. We will also be pleased to suggest you the most beautyful ones and the best restaurants in the area. We can also organise, on your request: Personal wine- and - food itineraries. Guided tours. Cooking courses. Wine and oil tasting courses.
Nature and sports lovers have a chance to engage in many activities in this area: Riding horses Bycicle itineraries. Trekking. Bird watching. Golf. Polo. Go-karts. Hot-air balloon tours.
We have a passion for art and local traditions: that is why we use to organise Traineeships in handicraft labs of ceramics and paintings.

The closest train station is Asciano Monte Oliveto Maggiore (6 km) but, if you want to find more services (rent a car, buses and markets) go to Sinalunga station (15 km).

The nearest city with shops, markets, banks, restaurants, museums and turist information points is Asciano or Rapolano Terme at 6 km away from the House.
THE SURROUNDINGS:
ASCIANO (6 Km): From here you can admire the Crete senesi. It is also an ideal place to reach the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore (XIV century), the most important monastery in the area of Siena.
SIENA (25 Km): Built on the hills, it has kept its peculiar medieval aspect, with narrow streets and palaces rich in history. The Palio, taking place on July 2nd and August 16th is a worldwide famous horse race that take place in the main square: the beautiful Piazza del Campo.
SAN GIMIGNANO (40 Km): It is completely surrounded by walls and it is famous for its wonderful towers. It is a very ancient village, founded by the Etruscans and then inhabited by the Romans; It offers delicious specialities and a well-known white wine called Vernaccia di San Gimignano. MONTALCINO (30 km): It shows a breathtaking panorama on the Orcia, Arbia and Ombrone valleys and many medieval buildings.
PIENZA (35 Km): It is a wonderful little village with a Cathedral that offers many important works of art.
CORTONA (32 Km)
It was one of the12 towns of the Etruscan league, and in the medieval walls you can still see traces of the gigantic ancient ones. Besides some palaces from the Renaissance, it has kept the original medieval looks. As it placed 600 meters above sea level, you can enjoy a spectacular view on the Val di Chiana.
MONTEPULCIANO (38 Km)
It has kept the beautiful looks of the XVI century: splendid palaces and churches built by the most established architects of the Renaissance. It is characterised by a wonderful panorama. Montepulciano is also a very lively town from a cultural point of view, offering famous events such as the "International Art Festival".

We have truly made some wonderful new friends and can't wait for you to come visit us in the U.S. We had a great time in Rome seeing the sights. But we missed all of you. We ate their our second night in Rome and liked it so much that we went back on our last night. Jamie, Mom and Dad ordered the Spaghetti Amatriciana, Sue had the Pene with Congac cream sauce and I had the Spaghetti Carbonara. Jamie also had the Straccetti Con Rughetta Balsamico.
