The Majnoni Guicciardini Estate is located halfway between Siena and Florence, in the mediaeval, tiny village of Vico d'Elsa. The building of the Estate includes the residential apartments of the owners: an eighteenth-century décor of stairways, frescoes and stuccoes leading to the main drawing room and bedrooms (they may be visited on request). The apartments that we rent are on the ground floor of the building overlooking the magnificent scenery of the Elsa Valley. Nearby are the Estate’s cellars in brickwork or carved out of the tufa, mediaeval granaries, storerooms etc. A broad choice of artistic and wine itineraries is available in the surrounding area.

La Guardia (2 Bedroom, Sleeps 4)

A ground floor apartment situated in one of the lovely period buildings of the Estate. The beamed and wooden shuttered rooms are full of Tuscan character. Old quarry tiled floors and local antique furnishings and fittings give an authentic flavour of the region. There is a private paved garden with terrace giving distant views over the Tuscan countryside, ideal for alfresco meals or a glass of estate's chianti in the evening.
The apartment consists of the main central living room with dining table, with separate kitchen with large kitchen table. The two bedrooms are adjoining, one with queen size bed and the other with two singles (cot available on request). Four piece modern bathroom. Further halls and utility room make up the apartment. The flat has an autonomous heating plant, with radiators in each room. Old and big walls keep it fresh during the summer.

La Tinaia (1 Bedroom, Sleeps 3)

La Tinaia is similar in its main characters to the former flat. The apartment consists of a large living room/kitchen, which opens into a large bedroom with a queen size bed and a single bed. Small (tub) bathroom. Area 75 sq.m. Sleeps 3. Kitchen includes gas/electric cooker, fridge. The guests have free access to the Estate garden and terrace, with a wonderful view on the Elsa Valley and Sangimignano's mediaeval towers.

Notes on accommodation
Heating possibility, dogs allowed with an extra fee of 50,00 for the final cleaning. Services include weekly change of bed and bathroom linen, water, gas, electricity. Services not included are final cleaning, 50 euro (100,00 euro with a dog).
Outside
Guardia has its own small garden, with a gate to the main street of the village. Tinaia shares with the estate the external terrace, completed with tables and chairs.
Coast/Beach
Nearest beaches: Cecina and Bibbona at about 70 kilometres, Grosseto at about 100 kilometres (more than one hour by car).
Special interest holidays
Artists, writers, musicians and gourmets are attracted to this part of the world. You can go to painting lessons, art shows and concerts, to wine tastings, and on nature trails in search of wild herbs etc.
Festivals and events such as open air dances are advertised in the flats.
Travel
The nearest Airports are: Florence (1 hour), Pisa (1,5 hours). Pisa, served by Ryanair, is our most frequently used airport.
The nearest train Stations are: Poggibonsi (15 mins), Certaldo (15 mins), Siena (45 mins), Firenze (1 hour). They have taxis and car rental. A hire car is recommended if you want to enjoy all the restaurants and wineries, the mountains and lakes, the abbeys and hot springs.
Distances
Vico d'Elsa is midway between Florence and Siena (about 30 km) and 60 km from Pisa. 10 minutes by car for arriving to San Gimignano and 40 minutes to Volterra. The surrounding area is full of smaller art towns or places, less crowdy than the former ones but as nice to visit as them.
Booking notes
Payment: By cheque or bank draft, 150€ to confirm booking, the balance at the arrival, on receipt of which we give you the keys. The rent includes: weekly linen and cleaning - not the final cleaning - electricity, cylinder gas - not the gas for the heating plant.

Vico d'Elsa is an ancient hilltop hamlet with an outstanding local Pizza restaurant (Vico Furbo) providing a grand buffet at very modest prices. Worth the visit alone. Peter & Maria, 2006
