The apartment is accessed through double wrought iron gates which lock automatically, or through a single wrought iron gate on the Lungomare side. The inside courtyard has been totally renovated with new flooring with integral lighting and switches on the inside for the automatic gates. The apartment is set out on one floor with the front door leading straight into the kitchen/dining area and the lounge with a wonderful sea view and a small corridor on the left, leading to both bedrooms. The patio is accessible through double patio doors direct from the kitchen. Nearby are local shops, designer shops and the wonderful daily fish market. It is situated in an ideal position for exploring Sicily with Mount Etna and Taormina to the North and beautiful beaches and archaeology sites to the South. Swimming is possible from the rocks which are a short walk away.

Bedroom 1 with double bed, double wardrobe, large chest of drawers and two bedside tables complete with lamps. Bedroom 2 with twin beds and chest of drawers, bedside table with bedside lamp and a wardrobe. Extra single bed is available if required. |

Completely new white bathroom suite with double shower with folding door, wc, bidet and wash basin. There is also a new large bathroom cabinet complete with mirror, lights and a shaver socket and a new water heater. The window overlooks the Ionian. |

Completely new kitchen includes new oven, fridge freezer and washing machine. Ample new cooking pans, plus plates, cutlery, glasses and cups. Kettle and Italian coffee maker. Kitchen is fully equipped with ironing board and iron. Plenty of storage. |

Newly renovated living/dining area with dining table and four chairs, there are two extra chairs in the bedroom. There is a sofa and armchair, coffee table, new TV, DVD Player CD/tape/radio player, CDs/DVDs, books, including guide books, and puzzles. |

Newly renovated dining/kitchen area leading to the patio complete with plants. There is a table and four chairs with cushions, plus spare patio chairs inside, and new large parasol. The patio overlooks a beautifully renovated large internal courtyard. |
Cleaning/towels/

All bedding, towels, including beach towels are included. There are spares in the drawers, plus tablecloths, napkins and tea towels. There is a washing machine for your use. |
Notes on accommodation
Air conditioning which also acts as a heater, has now been installed. There is also portable calor gas heater and electric heater. A land line telephone is available, accepting incoming calls only unless prior arrangements made. Broadband access is available to those who bring their own laptops, please advise before arrival if this is required. There is an extra charge for this service.
The apartment is all on one floor but there are steps up to it as it is on the first floor. Therefore it is not suitable for wheelchair guests.

Outside
Private patio complete with table, four chairs with cushions, and new large parasol. There is an outside tap and plants on the patio and extra seating if required.
Coast/Beach
Swimming is available from the rocks a five minute walk away and during the summer there are two nearby lidos. A 10 minute walk will take you to the ferries one of which goes to Madelaine beach, across the bay from Ortigia. This is only during the summer. The local bus AST near Siracusa Train Stn takes approx 30 mins to Fontaine Bianche and Arenealla which have full facilities, sunloungers, cover, activities and bars. There are other nearby places to swim from such as Ognina a short drive away.
Travel
Catania Airport is the closest airport to Ortigia approx l hr away and Palermo is approximately a 3 hour drive. Interbus has a direct service from both Palermo Centrale and Catania Airport into Siracusa bus stn, from there it is a 10 min taxi to the apt or a free local shuttle bus. Ortigia is best experienced on foot but to explore Sicily more there are car hire companies located at the airport or in Ortigia which rent cars on a daily basis. There is also ample public transport, bus and train.
Distances
Ortigia has many impressive historic areas especially Piazza del Duomo which is surrounded by Baroque architecture. The Neapolis Archaeological Park where both the impressive Greek Theatre and the Roman Ampitheatre can be seen are within a 15 minute drive or a 30 minute walk. Noto is approximately 30 minute drive south and has many beautiful restored Baroque buildings. The Valley of the Temples at Agrigento would take approximately ninety minutes and Mount Etna is about an hour north of Ortigia.
Further details
The nearest local grocery shop is within 100 metres of the apartment, turn right into Via Vittoria Veneto and it is on your left. The local fish market is open daily up until l.00pm selling an amazing variety of freshly caught fish, locally produced cheeses, wines and vegetables and is just a 5 minute walk towards Piazza Pancali. Ortigia has many wonderful restaurants and busy vibrant bars, and there are both local and designer shops within the town. There are ample cash points, banks and public transport and horse drawn carriages.

Thank you so much Jan for the use of your apartment we have had a truly relaxing time 99% wall to wall sunshine and to wake up every morning to the sun rising out of the bedroom window was magical! We have stayed local visiting the various sites and museums but took the bus several times to Fontaine Bianchi best swimming ever. The market was a delight as is the little deli up the road no hope for waistlines here! Everything was perfect Love Ortigia now, many thanks again Amanda & Robert
