Owner profile

About the owner
I am a retired town planning officer originally from Shropshire, UK now living for most of the year near the Mill - Dimora alla Cascata so am generally available to guests for help and advice. I also spend some time with my partner Sabino in the Middle East where he is currently employed. We hope to retire in the near future to an exciting new project we are developing a couple of kilometers away from the Mill. We both love Lunigiana where quite simply we find peace and tranquility, wholesome living, great food and wine and warm welcoming people in 'the land of the moon!'

Year purchased: 1996

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
Having spent many vacations in various parts of Italy since 1979 we fell in love with the Lunigiana area because it was untouched by the tourist crowds, simple and honest. The pace of life was/is unhurried, food - authentic local cuisine, people warm and welcoming and it is superbly placed for exploring mountain and coastal landscapes, medieval villages and large cultural centres or just staying at home simply relaxing. The area is easy to access by car, train and plane being served by a variety of airports. Today we feel just the same as we did 15 years ago. Very little has changed except prices have risen and fuel and some food items are now very similarly priced to those in the UK. Despite that it is still possible to eat out very well in the area for 10 euros per person.

Unique benefits of the property
The Mill is conveniently situated next to the village of Verrucola with it's spectacular castle and village walk yet just set apart that little bit to afford a degree of privacy. It's situation next to the pretty waterfall and stream affords relaxation, listening to the sound of the water, watching the wildlife and the world go by with perhaps a book and a glass of local vino! However if you want to explore the local area the Mill is ideally situated 17kms away from the local ski resort and 40 mins away from the coast including the famous Cinque Terre. In between many interesting villages and cultural centres to visit.
