Further details
As well as the restaurant and bar in the village, there are shops, a supermarket, banks and places to eat and drink in Bagni di Lucca. This spa town was fashionable in the 19th century when it was visited by Byron, Shelley and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. There is a beautiful outdoor pool with panoramic views, and the spa still functions, offering a range of traditional and modern teatments.
En route to Collodi, you will pass through several small villages, where a bank, a post office and pharmacy can be found. Collodi itself is noted for the 17th century Baroque gardens of the Villa Garzoni where Carlo Lorenzini wrote Pinocchio using Collodi as his pen name. Tribute is paid in the nearby Pinocchio park, a childrens favourite.
Lucca is full of charm and character and it's enchanting gothic and romanesque churches should not be missed. The 11th century walled city of Barga is also worth a visit especially for the summer open air festival.
Florence, the heart of Tuscany and cradle of the Rennaisance is an outstanding city, bursting with spectacular sites. En route you will pass Montecatini Terme, a spa town famous throughout Europe for its elegance and luxury, and Pistoia, the smallest Tuscan province.
There are limitless things to do. You can visit antique markets and vineyards, attend open air festivals and concerts, and sample boundless amounts of art and culture.
