Set in the village of Longoio, the house has been recently restored to retain most of its original features, chestnut beamed ceilings, whitewashed walls and terracotta floors. Outside there is a stone sun terrace, enclosed by railings, garden furniture provided. It is extremely well situated for exploring the surrounding areas. The nearest town, Bagni di Lucca, is 10 mins away by car. There you can find an excellent choice of restaurants, a market twice weekly, an outdoor swimming pool and a thermal spa. There is also a train station for those who prefer not to drive to Florence, Lucca, Pisa etc. Throughout the summer, there are many local ‘festas’, mostly food based, in the surrounding villages of the Controneria. As we live in the area we will be able to advise guests what is going on and when. The surrounding woodland makes it ideal for walkers and in the season you can find porcini (wild mushrooms) and discover the local wildlife, deer, eagles etc.

Changeover day
Is usually Saturday, but we can be flexible. Arrival time between 4 and 7pm, departure by 10am, unless prior arrangements have been made.
Accommodation
| Bedrooms: | Bedroom 1 with 2 single beds, wardrobe, dressing table, bedside cabinet. Bedroom 2, situated over one of the original arches in the village, has 2 single beds, dressing table, bedside cabinets and hanging space. |
| Bathrooms: | Upstairs bathroom with walk-in tiled shower area, vanity unit with wash basin and WC. |
| Kitchen: | Kitchen area has a cooker, fridge/freezer and microwave. Worktops tiled in old terracotta. |
| Living Rooms: | Diner/lounge area with table with 4 chairs and a wooden dresser. The lounge area has a two seater sofa and two matching chairs, two coffee tables, a DVD player and wood burning stove. |

Towels and bed linen are provided and changed weekly, for which there is a £7.50 per person, per stay, charge. Cleaning on departure only. |

Notes on accommodation
The house is not accessible by car, as the streets in the village are too narrow. Cars are left outside the village in the piazza, which is no more than 2 minutes away. The village streets are quite steep or are stepped. Swimming towels are not provided. The property is not suitable for young children as bedroom 2 is on the ground floor and bedroom 1 is on the first. There is a launderette in Bagni di Lucca. Home cooked "ready meals" available on request.
Outside
Outside there is a stone paved terrace, garden table, chairs and a sun umbrella are provided. It is enclosed by railings, on which are planters filled with trailing flowers.
Coast/Beach
The fashionable resort of Viareggio is 75 mins by car. The marble producing areas of Massa and Carrera are about another 10 mins up the coast. There is a weekly designer market at Forte dei Marmi, where they sell cut price designer labels.
Skiing
Abetone ski resort is about an hour drive away.
Travel
The nearest airport is Pisa and the house is an 1 hour 30 mins drive from there. It is well served by UK carriers, including Ryan Air and Easy Jet. Other airports in the area are Genova, Bologna and Florence, but are all further away. In our opinion, car hire is essential.
Distances
Bagni di Lucca 7km here you can find banks, restaurants and shops (including small supermarkets). 9km away at Fornoli is the railway station with free parking. Barga 15km, Lucca, an historic walled city, 25km, Abetone 35km and Pisa 45km.
Further details
The nearest shop is in the next village, a short walk away, it sells all the essentials and also bread which is baked here in Longoio in the old fashioned way in a wood oven.

£100 deposit to confirm the booking. Full payment 8 weeks before the date of arrival. Cash deposit of £100 to be made on arrival, returnable after the property has been checked prior to departure.
