Enjoy with us the traditional landscape of vineyards, cypress trees, olive groves and huge oak forests. Close to Lake Trasimeno lies the charming Etruscan town of Cortona. It is a good alternative for anyone wanting a break or a bit more Peace than Party. You can discover the area by hiking, on mountain bikes, on horseback or with our sailboat at Lake Trasimeno. Make your stay unforgettable: Sleep in the traditional Sheppard’s cart now available! There is a small shop-cum-bar and restaurant in the village of Portole about 4 km away and also in Teverina, in the other direction.

Changeover day
We usually rent from saturday to Saturday, but we want you to take advantage of reasonable air tickets. You can choose your convenient arrival day! ( in this case minimum stay 10 days)

Calzolaio (Sleeps 4. 2 Bedrooms)

Calzolaio was the home of a shoemaker who lived and worked here with his family until we restored it. Now it has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom. There is a piano in the upper room which you are welcome to play on. The huge oak in front of the house provides you with shade in the summertime and is home to many song birds.

Paneteria (Sleeps 4. 2 Bedrooms)

Paneteria is the Italian name for bakery. In its 800 year old walls you find the traditional bread-baking and pizza "forno". Of course it is fired with oak wood once a week. Paneteria has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen has a huge open fireplace. You have your private terrace with a pergola, as do all our apartments.

Sartoria (Sleeps 4. 2 Bedrooms)

Sartoria has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom. It also has an open fireplace that makes chilly autumn evenings nice and cosy. It has 2 terraces. One is protected perfectly from the hot summer sun and has a stunning view down the valley overlooking the whole property.

Notes on accommodation
Electricity and heating are extra. Sheets are changed every week. Please bring your own towels.

Casa valentina is a historic settlement on an ancient roman road that connected the Adriatic sea with the Mediterranean sea. We left the property as much as possible with its original charm. You will find some doorways much lower than in modern constructions. This was very useful in the "old days". You soon get used to it. The property is up in the mountains and has a very pleasant climate in the summer. You don´t need air condition like other places down in the valley.

Accessibility
Our property is not suitable for people with mobility problems.

Outside
Casa Valentina has 10 hectares of greenland and forest which provide its visitors a fantastic outdoor nature experience. You might see a lot of protected wildlife including the roe deer, wildboar, porcupine and even wolves. It is part of the nature "Passo Cerventosa"" park with wonderful hiking trails.
We have a natural 15X9m swimming pool with a plant purification system and fantastic colourful waterflowers and salmanders. We have special outdooraccommodating in a tipi or a traditional shepard cart. Look at the photos!

Coast/Beach
Casa Valentina is 22km away from the huge lake Trasimeno. We can provide our sailing boat for daytrips. The beautiful marine and coast national park Parco Uccelino at Grosetto is 2 h drive from Cortona.

Golf
A new golf course opened up just a half hour drive from Cortona!

Special interest holidays
From Cortona there are excellent opportunities for cultural excursions in both Tuscany and Umbria. We are ready to help you plan your trips and outdoor activities such as olive picking and olive oil tasting, or a cooking course in Tuscan specialities in our house. Our friends offer horse trecking to the most beautiful places.

Casa Valentina has a own ceramic workshop. Come and "throw" your own pieces on the wheel.

Casa Valentina has its own ceramic workshop. Local restaurants are just 5 minutes drive away from your holiday home. Louise is an archeologist specialised on Etruscian history. Come and join her on a tour to the Etruscian tombs and ritual places. Come for the olive picking season. It is a great experience to pick olives with us and see the olivemill. Produce your own olive oil! We get prices for the best oliveoil in the region.

About the owner
The area around Casa Valentina has been modeled by thousands of years of work on the part of the men and women who live there. They have gradually replaced part of the original forest cover with terraces on which to grow grain and vegetables for self-sufficiency. By constructing dry-stone walls and cultivating the land on steep mountainsides, these people have arrested the phenomenon of landslides for centuries. We arrived here from Germany in 1995 with the idea of caring for the land, utilizing the precious heritage and increasing the value of the local environment.To keep on with this tradition we developed a small farm-holiday-rental "agriturismo" in ways that are compatible with the characteristics of the territory offering visitors an interesting and enjoyable stay.
