Come and visit this relatively undiscovered area of Italy, along the adriatic coast and experience the traditional way of life and breathe the wonderfully clean air (approx 714m above sea level). This is an ideal place to relax and unwind and recharge your batteries. The property is located in the heart of this friendly hill top village. This village and surrounding areas offer its visitors beautiful scenery and irresistible charm with exquisite views of mountains, vineyards, olive groves, woodlands and snow capped mountains. We are approx 30km from the seaside town of San Salvo and Vasto. Skiing is also about an hour away in Roccaraso and Pescocostanzo.

Notes on accommodation
The property is suitable for winter bookings as it has central heating and also an open fire with logs supplied. The owners live in a seperate property and therefore available for any assistance throughout your holiday. This property is now suitable for toddlers as all stairways have the option of attaching a stairgate. Also there are many items for your use offered for free such as mobile internet connection, DVDs, CDs, games, bikes, picninc set and many items for your baby such as sterilising unit, play pen baby carrier, toddler carrier for the avid walkers and selection of baby toys.
Outside
There is a roof terrace with BBQ and a balcony.
Outside furniture included -table and chairs for al fresco eating and sun lounger.
Coast/Beach
Abruzzo lies along the adriatic coast and we are approx 30km from the glorious golden beaches. The beaches are lined with beach bars and restaurants with swings, slides and climbing frames for the young child. The sea side towns have many exquisite fish restaurants.
Skiing
Skiing is available at several ski resorts. The nearest to us is Roccaraso approx 70km away. It is amongst the most renowed ski resorts in central and southern Italy.
Travel
Car Hire is highly recommended.
Accessible by airports in Pescara (approx 95km) Rome (approx 260km) and Ancona (260km)Bari and Naples (approx 165km)
Distances
Carunchio is one of many hilltop village within a short drive of one another, Celenza, Palmoli and Roccaspinalveti to name but a few. It is also close to the town of San Salvo, Vasto and Termoli. Naples is approx 166km.
There is a water park in Vasto open in the summer and Go Karting near San Salvo open all year round.
Further details
Although the village is small it boasts a butchers, bakers, post office, mini market, chemist, three bars and Pizzeria (open most holidays and every weekend) a restaurant (bookings only). A mobile fishmonger and cheese van visits the village twice a week. There is an 'agriturismo' on the outskirts of the village open all year round serving specialities of the area. Also offering horse riding.

25% non refundable deposit and the balance is due 4 weeks before arrival. Credit/Debit cards, bank transfer and cheques accepted.

After staying in the beautiful Casa Margharita I thought it would be nice to spread the word to other prospective guests.
I am always sceptical about hiring a holiday home, admittedly I know I am hard to please as I enjoy authenticity in a property but I also enjoy being warm and cosy. Casa Margharita ticked all the boxes as it is a BEAUTIFUL traditional village home with the added bonus of feeling as cosy as a 'box of kittens' for the entire stay. It was so lovely to come back from a hard days exploration to this soulful hideaway. I would not be exagerating when i say it felt like the house was giving me a hug!
My daughter particularly loved Carunchio. We found the locals so helpful and very accomodating of our very poor Italian!
We loved the layout of the property and could quite easily have moved in, that's how much it felt like home!

About the owner
We first visited the area of Abruzzo in early 2004 and purchased all our properties within the year in the beautiful village of Carunchio. We were overwhelmed by the friendliness of the locals to two complete strangers, who spoke very little Italian. We visited many times in the first 6 months and then made the radical decision to move over and start a new life by August of 2004.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Casa Margherita is situated in the historical centre of Carunchio and on a pedestrian only street which means that during your stay you can really enjoy the peaceful location. Although most locals don't speak any English they are eager to converse.
