Welcome to our home in the vineyards. It is a typical 'casa colonica,' spacious, large airy rooms with high beamed ceilings and spectacular views of surrounding hills. One can view the seacoast to La Spezia upon walking up the hill. We are at the end of a ribbon of road and it is a safe and secluded refuge from the world, yet centrally located near many cultural centers: Florence, Pisa and Lucca and Cinque Terre. We are located at the borders of the nature reserve of the Alpi Apuani where one can hike and visit many mountain towns and try the local cusine. Other nearby towns are Pietrasanta, known for it's marble carving studios, and bronze foundries, an artists paradise! In the evening the piazza of Pietrasanta becomes a large living room where one can sit in a cafe and watch people and children can ride their bikes. There are many outdoor sagras with live music and outdoor dining in all of the small towns nearby. Sandy beaches are 15 minutes away.

Guest comments
'I just wanted to say a belated 'thank you' for the use of your house. We had a wonderful time; the location was superb and everyone was very friendly. I meant to e-mail you when I got back but our term started soon afterwards and I have been very busy registering students etc.' - Rick Thomas, 2008.
'I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the house and hope to return!' - Pru Grand, 2006
'Set in a wonderful location in the hills that go down to the sea...amazing views aross the surrounding area. A splendid base from which to explore the surrounding area. Plenty of room for my wife and I and our three young children. We hired a Renault and drove to Pisa, Lucca, Florence and even Sienna - but there was lots more to see if we had had more time. But if you want to stay home and read for a day it's a nice place to do that or just drive down to the beach only a few minutes away.' - Phil Ritchie, 2007

About the owner
We love our home and the location was perfect to bring up my son who roamed through the vineyards and up into the hills to explore. We are close to the sea and this was wonderful and at once close to the ancient cities of Lucca and Florence etc. I am a fine artist and although we are in the states right now, we return every year to recapture the happy years we spent on the hill.

Year purchased: 1980's

Why the owner chose a home in this location
I bought it because I fell in love with the area. I love the people and their traditions. I love the mountains and the flat lands which lead to the beautiful Mediterranean sea. At the time, I was carving marble and needed to be near the studios and quarries in this region. Now that I have returned to my painting, the place has become my muse in a different way. This part of Italy has maintained much of their traditions and it is still very much country, yet it is close to Florence and Lucca and even Milano and Rome - so that if I want to go to the museums or just immerse myself in the wonderful cities, I can!

Unique benefits of the property
The benefits you will enjoy while staying at our home are a sense of being far away and safe, yet when you go down the hill, you are a short way to the small towns nearby or the seashore. It is a unique place in the beauty it offers being set in the vineyards and a chance to be in a place where people have kept the land like this for generations.
