Our traditional Tuscan stone house is tucked away in the delightful village of Valdottavo. Is situated in the foothills of the Apennine mountains in Tuscany but only 20 minutes from Lucca and 40 minutes from the nearest airport at Pisa. The house has recently been restored and with full central heating can also be used to take advantage of the ski resort of Abetone which is less than an hour's drive. The house is only 200 yards from the centre of the village which has many amenities including 2 bars, a pizzeria, grocer shops and a wonderful butcher/delicatessen. In addition, a small theatre is currently being restored which should reopen in 2006. The property itself is on 3 floors; has 2 double bedrooms (1 ensuite) sleeping a maximum of 4 people. Kitchen/dining area is fully equipped and lounge has TV & DVD plus stereo. On the ground floor is a large modern bathroom. Outside there is space to park and a delightful patio area with sun loungers & large parasol, BBQ and lighting.

Notes on accommodation
Externally the property has been traditionally restored and with the thick stone walls and shutters helps keep the house lovely and cool in the summer months. However, with central heating the house becomes very snug and cosy and the winter months can also be enjoyed for Christmas and the skiing season at nearby Abetone.

Outside
Entrance to our house is via a private driveway which leads you past the new patio area to the front of the house where your car can be safely left. From the patio you can sit back and enjoy the views of the surrounding hillside. The patio is well equipped and has a large table & chairs, sun loungers, large parasol, BBQ, water fountain, external lighting.
Coast/Beach
The beautiful beaches at Viareggio, Lido di Camaiore, Torre del lago-Puccini, Forte dei Marni are all within 40 minutes drive. Further afield going north is the magnificent Cinque Terre (5 fishing villages steeply built on the coastline) and going south the island of Elba (just over an hour's drive to Piombino to catch a ferry across to this beautiful island).
Skiing
Abetone is the major ski resort in Tuscany - about an hour's drive from the property. Has over 20kms of runs, 2 sports rental shops in the centre for all your needs and only a 2 minute walk to the chair lifts. Most of the runs are rated blue (easy) which wind you through pleasant forest trails and there are also a few red (intermediate) runs which enable you to pick up some speed and really enjoy yourself!
Travel
Pisa airport (Ryanir, Easyjet, British Airways, Thompson) is the nearest airport and is about a 40 minute drive. Genoa and Bologna are also close by. A car is recommended and can be hired direct from the airport (Hertz, AutoEurope, etc) although you can travel by train via Lucca.

Further details
Valdottavo is self sufficient in that there are many small grocer stores selling good quality local produce for your everyday needs, a superb butcher's shop which you must try, a chemist & tobac. All the locals are very friendly and as long as you try to speak some Italian you will be very satisfied with the response! Lucca is about 20 mins away and there is a large supermarket on the way there. Lucca is absolutely beautiful! A smaller version of Florence but with far less tourists! You can walk or cycle on top of the medieval walls which are wide and provide plenty of shade with their tree lined avenues. Many festivals, concerts and street markets are held throughout the year and is well worth the visit.
