This "home from home" is renovated tastefully and painted bright yellow - very much in keeping with the whole historic centre with its coloured houses. The terrace is a place for relaxing, enjoying both family or romantic meals, BBQs, sunbathing or just dreaming as you enjoy a glass of local wine looking over the roof-tops towards the sea. The summer months are perfect for enjoying the beautifully clean beaches in the vicinity. At other times of year there are wonderful walks to be had, discovering the ancient countryside, flora and fauna. The local people remember the house as a place full of singing and dancing and this is reflected in its homely, artistic and friendly atmosphere - a home from home! Free parking just up the road. Nearby shops, restaurants and amenities. Many local festivals show-casing music, arts and local delicacies.

Notes on accommodation
The house has been designed to be very comfortable and suitable for all visitors. All living spaces are on one floor making it easy for families with young children or with people with mobility issues. Double doors from the kitchen lead to the terrace making it easy to chat to others while cooking the wonderful local produce and eating outside in the balmy evenings. Bedrooms are on the floor below and good mattresses ensure a good night's sleep. There is a bathroom with shower on each floor. We have invested in good mattresses to en-sure a good night's sleep. There is a small self-contained apartment available during July-September that sleeps 2 people - a useful add-on for large families or groups of friends or can be rented separately.

Accessibility
The stairs need care for toddlers or people who may have mobility issues. There is a wooden hand-rail on the stairs, and the child-gate at the top and bottom of the stairs means that the sitting room can be blocked off and made into a safe space for babies or toddlers.

Outside
The colourful private terrace with plants and barbecue, leads onto the kitchen making eating and socialising outside very easy and accessible. The streets of the old town are generally very quiet and peaceful. In the summer months, and especially in August when there is a sudden influx of tourists and relatives, the streets can become very lively with families eating outside with friends, children and neighbours joining each other to eat on the streets or on their terraces.

Coast/Beach
Bosa Marina - the nearest beach approx 2 km. It is the perfect long, sandy beach for all children and young people, with many cafes, shops and facilities. Several beaches within cycling or driving distance - one with restaurant, disco, and shower facilities - some rocky and great for snorkelling. Bosa is a good centre for exploring the island and boat trips are a favourite activity either from Bosa itself, or from Alghero as well as exploring the ancient countryside and historic sites.

Golf
Golf within 40km south of the island along beautiful coastline.

Special interest holidays
Although no specific courses, cookery, bird-watching, horse-riding, bike and scooter hire, guided tours, can be accessed easily and with notice can be arranged locally. There is plenty of information available in the house re archaeology, flora and fauna, or pony-trekking etc. Please get in touch if you are interested in learning fresco, encaustic, or egg-tempera painting by well-known international artist who lives locally.

Travel
Alghero is the nearest airport - approx 50km away (wonderful coastal road)
and it takes approx an hour. Hire car is recommended, but some visitors have enjoyed using local buses. There is also a tourist train that goes regularly to Bosa Marina. It is a good centre for exploring the island by motor-bike or car.
Olbia airport is approx 2 hours away by car. Ferries from Italy sail to Olbia or Porto Torres.

Distances
5 km from Flussio, village with murals on many buildings. Sale of local lace & basket-weaving. There are ruins of a largely Punic / Roman / Carthaginian city at Cornus near Santa Caterina Pittinuri which is interesting but largely un-excavated. However the remains at Tharros of a Phoenician City founded in 730 BC are totally stunning and well worth a visit. The old church at San Giovanni di Sinis is worth a visit whilst you are down there, it is one of the oldest Christian churches in Sardinia.

Further details
There are many local shops, supermarkets, restaurants and banks. There is a local tourist office, and it is possible to rent bikes and motorbikes nearby. The castle is a two minute walk away through cobbled streets. Shops are open in the summer between 8 - 12.30 and 6 - 8.30pm. At other times of the year they open earlier.

Booking notes
Rental is confirmed on receipt of a non refundable deposit and completed booking form. Payment is due 6 - 8 weeks before date of arrival, when the client will receive details in writing/by email, directions to Bosa and to the house from Alghero airport.

Guest comments
For us, Bosa and Sardinia were the perfect mix of relaxation and activity. Loved relaxing on the terrace with the postcard view, but equally enjoyed kyaking on the river Temo, diving at Alghero and riding our own dinghy around the Golfo di Orosei. The weather has been perfect and the apartment has been the ideal home away from home. Bosa is unique, colourful and approachable.

Thanks a lot and great luck that we had the opportunity to stay in this wonderful apartment with the terrace that we will miss – until next time! We have enjoyed marvellous walks along the coastline south and north of Bosa – swam and snorkled and watched a couple of world cup matches at local bars! Sure we will recommend Casa Montenegro to our friends.

Thankyou for answering all our questions and making us so welcome. We explored the local countryside by catching the Trenino Verde to Macomer and the landscape is beautiful. We were lucking to be here for the festivals too!

Owner profile

About the owner
Kay Goodridge is an artist/photographer and her partner, Nick Skelton is a DJ and carpenter, living and working in the UK. We have made the house very homely and artistic - a home from home - and love reading the visitor's book to find out what people have enjoyed about their holidays. On a couple of occasions we have lived in Bosa during the summer months and enjoy the friendliness and warmth of the local people.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
After visiting Sardinia and then calling in at Bosa to visit friends, we bought the house in 2004. Since then we have rented the house out regularly and have also come to Bosa as often as possible for holidays. We have always loved the Greek Islands and found that Sardinia has a lot of similar features - the wonderful, ancient landscapes, the rocky and sandy beaches and of course the sunshine - allegedly 300 days of the year! As very busy people, spending time in Bosa is very relaxing, and we have now explored most of the island in our camper-van. Bosa's population triples in August with tourists and mainland italians who have family and friends still living in Sardinia, and the town becomes a busy centre for art, live music and festivals, which we love.

Unique benefits of the property
The streets of the historic centre are very quiet, but very accessible to the bustling centre. One of the amazing things is the lack of traffic on the roads, even in busy months. The terrace is one of the house's best features as is the artistic decor and the feeling that this is a home, as one of the guests said " I could not believe that this was a house we found on the internet - a real home from home!" which is exactly the atmosphere that we want to create. There is a bathroom, spacious sitting room, a kitchen and terrace all on the ground floor as you enter from the street - this is especially useful for young children as there is a stair-gate that can be shut to give a self-contained space on one floor.
