Single stylish apartment with pool in lovingly restored farmhouse nestles on a hillside, off the beaten track, in the famous Chianti wine region. Its spectacular views look out over a hidden valley to the typical Tuscan hilltop village of Montebenichi. The apartment is ideal for 2 people and perfectly situated for enjoying idyllic peaceful solitude in unspoilt countryside, as well as exploring the wealth of Tuscan art, history, life and beauty within easy reach. These include such evocative names as Siena, Florence, Cortona and San Gimignano, not to mention some of the many other hidden jewels of Tuscany to be discovered on foot or by car.

Rental runs from Saturday to Saturday. Arrival 4.00pm to 7.00pm.

Bedrooms: 1 spacious peaceful bedroom with comfortable king size double bed (160cms), antique bedside tables and good reading lights, tribal rugs and wicker chair and an ample wardrobe and cupboard for storage and a hairdryer, so, no need to bring your own.
Bathrooms: En-suite shower room with power shower, bidet, toilet, washbasin, large antique mirror and good lighting.
Kitchen: Fully equipped 'cooks kitchen' with 4 ring gas stove, oven, extractor fan with light, plenty of work tops, large fridge/freezer and all the pots, pans, knives, utensils and other equipment you are likely to need to cook wonderful meals with.
Utility Room: Washing machine and separate dryer shared with owner along with extra cushions and mattresses for terrace loungers and chairs.
Living Rooms: A large comfortable living space is made up of a sitting area with sofa (bed), 2 antique Indian wood & leather day beds and cushions, good reading light, CD stereo and TV, only for watching videos, and a library of CDs, videos and books.
Other: Dining area with seating for 6. There is plenty of space to lounge, cook, or just relax and enjoy the peace in this ample living area.

Weekly supplies of clean bed linen, bath, kitchen and swimming towels and final cleaning are all included in rental.

Notes on accommodation
The property is not suitable for children under 12 years old.

Outside
The large private terrace to the front and side of the apartment is comfortably furnished for dining and lounging; perfect for leisurely ‘al fresco’ meals, napping on a sun lounger soaking up the Tuscan sunshine, enjoying the surrounding aromatic garden or simply gazing at the stunning views by day or the unpolluted star lit sky by night.
The pool is 15m x 5.50m and 2.40m at the deep end, great for swimmers who want to exercise and have fun diving, and those who just want to cool off. It is only shared with us, the owners and the occasional visiting friend (only one of us swims). The soft grey liner and natural stone edging set it discreetly into the hillside olive grove while the infinity edge gives a sensational experience as you swim looking out over the wonderful totally unspoilt wooded landscape and the wildlife pond below.
The pool is open from the end of March to mid October.

Coast/Beach
The coast is roughly 120klms away and takes about I hour 30 mins to get there. There are great beaches at Marina di Grosetto.

Travel
There are direct flights to Florence from most major European cities, Meridiana Airlines fly there from London Gatwick to Florence; the apartment is roughly 1 hour from Florence airport and 1˝ hour from Pisa, many low cost airlines fly to Pisa airport including Ryan Air and Fly Thompson. Rome is also an option being roughly 2˝ hours away. A car is essential as there is no public transport close by.

Distances
The nearest village to shop is Ambra (15 mins drive), here you will find a bank with cash machine, a petrol station, 2 cafes, a good restaurant, a couple of grocery stores, butcher and a market on Tuesdays. There are good small supermarkets and all amenities in Castelnuovo Beradenga (20 mins) and Bucine (25 mins away).

We provide a generous ‘welcome pack’ of groceries to make an evening meal and breakfast, and the kitchen and bathroom are well stocked with all basic essentials.

Booking notes
Payment of 20% deposit secures booking. The balance is to be paid on arrival. 100% payment on booking if 6 weeks or less before rental starts. On payment of the deposit directions on how to get to the property will be sent to you.

Returnable security deposit - 200 euros to be paid on arrival will be reimbursed on a positive inspection of the property on departure.

June 2010 Cucule is a relaxing getaway, both serene and spectacular. We spent three weeks traveling in Italy and our time at Cucule was definitely the highlight. Susan and Ray have the gift of attending to every detail while allowing guests both privacy and space. The location is central, affording easy day trips around Chianti and its seclusion is appealing at the end of a day exploring. The kitchen has everything you need to cook with local market fare and the apartment is both comfortable and well appointed. Susan and Ray are happy to make recommendations and reservations for restaurants, museums etc. We have recommended Cucule to many friends and hope someday to return to this beautiful place and reconnect with these talented, kind people. About the owner
My love affair with Italy began when I was 5 years old on board an Italian ship while making my first trip back to Europe from Africa where I was born and it has continued ever since. With much time spent in Italy at both work and play I decided during a holiday in November 1987 to make Tuscany and its unique Chianti region my home. I spent the next 3 years looking for a suitable house to restore and eventually after finding Cucule another 13 restoring it! During this time I lived in Austria working as a textile designer. The apartment was the first part of the house to be completed and is where we lived when at Cucule for many years. The rest of the divided house was finally ready to move into in 2003. It now my permanent home.

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We are ‘off the beaten track’ but not in the least isolated and for me that is what makes this place so special. You are in peaceful solitude but not far away from the energising and inspiring life of many characteristic towns and villages and all that that entails; History, Art, Markets, Fashion, Food and Wine … The picturesque countryside is so varied depending on which direction you decide to explore; ancient oak woods, colourful vineyards and olive groves, wheat fields of the mysterious 'Crete Sinese' and everywhere amazing views. I now live here permanently and it gives me huge pleasure to share Cucule with others in search of inspiring tranquillity.
