Special interest holidays
15th August is the palio in San Ginesio.
Over 250 people in period costume take part to recreate the medieval spirit and the event features such characters as the 'Capitano del Popolo', the 'Signori dei Castelli' and the 'Cavalieri' or jousters who are the main protagonists of the 'Giostra dell'Anello'.
The Cavalieri are semi-professional and belong to an organisation called 'Equivalia' who themselves form part of a larger organisation specialising in recreating such spectacles across Italy.
Another important element of the Palio is the performance of period dances which resemble the originals as close as possible and are the fruit of years of study.
The performers are accompanied by expert musicians of traditional instruments such as the 'tamburi'.

Eldorado Park has 5 swimming pools and the highest slide in Europe and is about 37 miles (59km) from the house.
Ascoli Piceno, with its fabulous centre, elegant shops and fine restaurants, is just 41 miles from San Ginesio and well worth the visit.

Owner profile
About the owner
We are John and Judith and live in rural Northumberland where we run our own business selling Eco friendly products for home and family. We develop, produce and sell our products via our website and to trade customers. From laundry, cleaning, room fragrances to skin care for the whole family. We are now expanding our Trade sales into Europe.
We lived in Umbria for nearly 8 years and returned to the UK in 2000 for family reasons. But we missed the Italian way of life and in 2004 we bought our apartment in San Ginesio. We dont have the time to visit our apartment as often as we would like but as our business grows in Europe we plan to divide our time between Northumberland and San Ginesio.
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
When we were ready to buy a property in Italy we decided to look in Le Marche region as we feel that Umbria had become more comercialised and Le Marche still retains the traditional family environment - much like Umbria was 15 years ago. We visited and read about the region, and eventually decided to look at an area around Amandola as it had both easy access to the coast and wonderful countryside. We planned our house buying visit thoroughly making appointments each day for the first week with 5 different estate agents leaving the 2nd week free for second visits. Having lived in Umbria we knew the problems associated with buying a remote property and spiralling costs of full renovation projects. When we first walked into the apartment at San Ginesio, we both mmediately said 'this is it'.
Unique benefits of the property
It is great to know that you don't have to go out in the car everyday - daily shopping, banking, bars and restaurants all within a few minutes walk. The shopkeepers and bar owners are very welcoming and make you feel at home. During the summer months there are outdoor concerts and festas with the wonderous Palio on the 15th August. Jousting, flags, drums and costumes which goes on all through the day and into the evening.
The house is built into the ancient city walls and all the windows and the private terrace look out onto the Sybillini mountains. There is a large free carpark adjacent to the city walls for easy access to the house.
We have left available books and games, music, maps and information about places to visit and great restaurants and hope you love it as much as we do.
