It is secluded yet within easy reach (10 mins) of both Barga and Castlenuovo with their many facilities for eating and entertainment. The villa has 3 double bedrooms (1 x en-suite), 2 further bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a modern, fully equipped kitchen, living room, terrace and pool area. There is also a games room with ping pong table and darts. A mettato or chestnut store outside serves as a pool house. It is mins from hill walking, trekking, mountain biking, kayaking and fishing and is just 25 mins from the ancient walled town of Lucca and 1 hour from Pisa International Airport. Florence with all its attractions is 1 hour away. A trip to the beach at Viareggio or Forte dei Marmi is 45 mins. It is the perfect retreat yet within easy access of all the fabulous facilities that this part of Northern Italy has to offer.

The villa is at the end of its own 2km drive and has ample parking for guests. There is a large cantina on the ground floor that has been converted into a games room with Ping Pong and Darts. The property is suitable for either one large family or extended family, two families or a group of sharers.

Outside
The property lies within 3 hectares of its own chestnut woods. The terraces stretch below to the views of Barga and beyond. There is ample room for the children to explore while the adults lounge around the 10 x 5 metre private pool. In the Mettato there is a fridge and there are outdoor games. There is a barbeque for al fresco eating - and a large outdoor dining table. There is ample outdoor furniture and a herb garden.
Coast/Beach
The villa is ideally placed for day trips to the seaside - the Italian Riviera with Viarreggio and Forte dei Marme make a fabulous family day out. It is approximately 45 minutes by car from the sea.
Skiing
There is beginners skiing at Casone - a 40 minute car ride from the villa - perfect for children (link attached from villa website). For the more advanced skier there is skiing at Abetone - approximately 1.5 hours away.
Travel
Pisa International Airport - 1 hour.
Florence Airport - 1.5 hours.
Rome Airport - 2.5 hours.
Distances
Il Castagnello is set in the tranquil and beautiful chestnut forests of the Alpi Apuane. Set on a private drive two kilometres from the main road you will enjoy breathtaking views across the valley to the hillside battlements of Barga, your nearest town. During the season Barga enjoys art, opera and jazz festivals. If you want something more energetic than lying by the pool in the sun then head for the local sports facilities, you can fish in the River Serchio or horse ride in the valley.
Further details
The villa is between the towns of Barga and Castlenuovo - both of which have great facilities and markets. Florence with its abundance of culture is a comfortable day trip away, just an hour and a halfs drive. The same of Pisa with its beautiful Leaning Tower an hour away. The local supermarket is just 10 minutes away, tennis courts in Barga and the Garfagnana, famous for all walking, trekking and outdoor persuits radiates out all around you - Castlenuovo is the trekking centre of the Garfagnana region.
