La Cerreta is an old farmhouse in the beautiful and unspoilt Garfagnana region of Northern Tuscany. It stands alone and is very private - you can have it all to yourself! Views from the farmhouse over the valley are breathtaking. Take a lazy lunch on the terrace and then freshen up with a dip in the pool. Inside are whitewashed walls, old beams and an open fire. Traditional and simple furnishings add character. Flexible accommodation allows the possibility of renting to two small families (friends of course!). Couples too will feel at home here, as the interior is not overwhelming in size. There are 2.5 hectares of land, all yours to explore, with a wood, a wonderful deck overlooking the pool for lazing on and lots of sunny spots for picnics. The swimming pool is above ground and so very safe for younger children. A much-loved house for a wonderful holiday for families or couples.

Changeover day
Changeover day is Saturday although we may be flexible out of July and August.

Outside
There is a terrace at the front of the house with table and chairs and a bamboo covered pergola for shady breakfasts. At the back of the house is a beautiful deck area shaded by willow and fig trees. There is a gas barbecue and also a fire bowl which guests can also use for cooking on. There is plenty of outside furniture including loungers.
Coast/Beach
The coast is about a 50 minute drive. There are many resorts including fun Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi with its designer shops and chic holiday making Italians. The best thing is to catch a train from Castelnuovo (10 mins by car) and go for the day.
Golf
What must be one of Tuscany's only golf courses is just down the road - six holes and a dinky club house. Probably not for budding Tiger Woods's but reputedly fun. There are some clubs at the house if needed.
Travel
Pisa airport is 74 kilometres and door to door is about 1hr 20 minutes. Car hire is essential.
Distances
The Garfagnana region of Northern Tuscany chestnut covered hills and the Apuan Alps circling round. The Orecchiela National Park is about 15km away - perfect for walkers and nature lovers. Wonderful hilltop towns include Barga (20 minute drive) with its own opera and jazz festivals. Florence (1.5 hours drive or train), Lucca (45 minutes car or train), Viareggio and the fantastic Cinque Terre with its brightly painted houses and sheltered coves, are all perfect for day trips.
Further details
There are plenty of useful shops in Castelnuovo or even nearer Pieve Fosciana including bakeries and delis, banks, internet shops and restaurants. There is a market every Thursday in Castelnuovo.
A little mini market is a 5 minute drive away and seems to sell just about everything.
There are plenty of restaurants to recommend and details are at the house.
Booking notes
To book, we will require you to fill in a booking form with a 25% deposit. The balance and a returnable damages deposit cheque are payable six weeks before you go. We will also send you directions etc once we've received your payment.
Guest comments
We have stayed twice at La Cerreta and loved our holiday there each time. Memories consist of long lunches on the terrace overlooking distant villages, walks along the river through the woods, refreshing dips in the pool and waking up to amazing views over the Tuscan countryside... the house itself fitted our family perfectly, was clean and furnished well. There are plenty of good restaurants and days out, our favourite was cycling around Lucca on the city walls.. A great place if you want some peace and quiet, within easy reach of some unspoilt Tuscan Towns. Highly recommended.
