Accessibility
1 bedroom is on the ground floor and is accessed from the terrace, so suitable for elderly.

Outside
Large gardens extending to 3 acres include a 10 x 5 metre private swimming pool plus loungers, fruit trees and a wood area of about 2 acres. There is also a large terrace for outside dining and a barbeque. Herb garden. The views are stunning from both sides of the villa - to the Adriatic in one direction over the hills, and to the Sibillini mountains in the other.

Coast/Beach
50 minute drive time to the coast. There are a variety of beaches within striking distance including San Benedetto for fashionable shops and a wide open, sandy beach with lots of cafes and restaurants (1 hour drive), Pedaso which is a small beach resort, Sirolo which has stunning cliffs onto the beach from Monte Conero etc

Skiing
20 mins drive to Sassotetto ski resort which has several red runs and several blue runs. Also good for beginners.

Special interest holidays
The Villa is an ideal base for walking in the mountains, cycling, mountaineering or skiing in the winter. The beaches are only a 50 minute drive away for the less active! There are numerous hilltop villages & towns to be explored, fantastic (and cheap) local restaurants to enjoy, vineyards to sample, and a way of life unchanged for many decades to be enjoyed.

Travel
1 1/2 hour drive from Ancona airport (Ryanair from Stansted), 1 3/4 hour from Pescara Airport, 2 hours from Rimini, 3 hours from both Rome and Bologna Airports. Car hire essential - booking Hertz through the Ryanair website usually seems to be the cheapest option.

Distances
The Villa is equidistant from two Medieval towns - Sarnano and Amandola, both 7 minute drive in either direction, or 1 hour walk. These have lots of shops and supermarkets, weekly fruit and vegetable markets and a variety of restaurants. Ascoli Piceno is just 45 mins away; Fermo 1 hours; Frassasi caves 1 hour (35 km long wonderland of limestone caverns and caves); beaches 50 mins; Macerata 45 mins; Loreto 50 minutes.

Further details
Le Marche is located half way down Italy's Eastern coast - the calf of Italy. With a 180 Km coastline of enticing beaches on the Adriatic Sea to the east, and the gently rolling foothills of the Sibillini Mountains in the west, it provides an enchanting landscape. Le Marche is a truly special secret. This is not a tourist location, so local prices for food and drink are not inflated. Typically a capuccino costs between 80c and E1.00 and a very generous three-course meal with wine between E17 and E25.
The area may not have the quantity of artistic treasures of Tuscany but there are still many gems to be found. For example, a Crevelli still sits in the church in Monte S. Martino (which can be seen from the villa and also offers a fantastic restaurant!). Ascoli Piceno, Fermo, Tolentino and Urbino are all stunning places to visit, and the natural landscape of mountains and sandy beaches also offer breathtaking sights.

Guest comments
Villa Farrelli, Taccerelli and the surrounding area of Monti Sibillini are just beautiful. Having visited the villa on two ocassions and planning the third visit I can guarantee relaxation, fun, history, stunning views, great food (whether from the perfectly equipped kitchen of the villa or a number of good local restaurants). The villa is well equipped to keep you entertained and if you run out of options, time your visit with a local festival and there’s even more entertainment in abundance. This place is just great great great.

Owner profile

About the owner
I live in England with my partner and our Irish Setter. We spend as much time in Italy as we can, including a month in the Summer, a couple of weeks at Christmas and weekends here and there. Cheap Ryanair flights from Stansted make this an easy option.

Year purchased: 2007

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We fell in love with the area pretty much on first visit. It's unspoilt, with relatively few tourists so it feels authentic rural Italy unlike other places in Italy which are overrun with tourists and souvenir shops! There are lots of fantastic restaurants, great fruit and veg markets, the people are friendly and a huge attraction of the area is the ability to get from the mountains to the beach in under an hour. There are a range of activities on offer locally - cycling, walking, mountain climbing, bird watching, water sports etc.

Unique benefits of the property
We fully restored and renovated the Vila in 2007 so all the equipment is new and functions well. It is equipped to UK standards eg fully fitted kitchen and modern ensuite bathrooms, and is used 2 months a year by the owners so it is a comfortable and welcoming 'home from home', not a rental property. The hamlet of Taccarelli is charming, with a small church, vegetable van on Fridays and an average age of 84! The locals are extremely friendly and sociable and will engage in conversation regardless of language barriers.
