This modern villa has been restored from an older property and is simply furnished, yet with all the essentials. It is situated between two villages on its own hilltop but within easy reach of all amenities. It is on three floors, has a very large patio with swimming pool and also a roof terrace for evening dining, overlooking the mountains. Balconies from the bedrooms give privacy and extra space. Our only neighbours are the sheep from the nearby farm which makes and sells cheese.

Relax and cool off in the patio pool, which is above ground level, with a glass of wine while taking in the magnificent views. Beyond the terrace is the hillside garden sloping down away from the house. The garden is stocked with many fruit trees such as olives, cherries and persimmons, perfect for a little snack or addition to your menu when in season.
Coast/Beach
30 mins drive to beaches which are very clean, sandy, with warm gentle waves.
Skiing
Nearest ski resort is 30 mins by car. Small resort with all facilities. Larger resorts are a longer drive away. South in Italy. Skiing here is generally gentle through beech woods. Just an hour’s drive away are numerous larger resorts including Roccaraso. The highest point is 2,141 metres with 156km of pistes of varying difficulty. The region as a whole has 21 ski areas located in the highest region of the Apennines and they often have more snow than the Alps. Abruzzo also is popular for cross country skiing, especially on the high plain of Campo Imperatore in the Gran Sasso. Prices are cheaper than in the Alps.
Travel
Car hire is recommended. 20 mins drive from Pescara airport. 2 hour drive from Rome Ciampino.
Distances
Few minutes drive to either village. Well known abbey of Serramonacesca a few minutes away as is Volto Santo, the Holy Face of Jesus, the sanctuary in Manoppello.
Further details
The area is of outstanding beauty set in the foothills of the mountains on the edge of the Majella National Park which is home to all sorts of wild animals (including wolves and bears!) However these are rarely seen now. Walks can be organised for mushroom or truffle gathering, picking wild asparagus, or just for sightseeing. Both local villages have banking facilities, shops, restaurants and cafes. One is sleepy and tranquil, one more lively. In the summer all the villages organise local festivals and there are medieval processions and exhibitions. Our local village organises a mountain walk. There are many untouched villages around with not a tourist in sight. This is hidden Italy.

Owner profile
About the owner
We bought the house nearly five years ago and have spent this time renovating it. This last year we have had an excellent builder who has brought the house into a good state of repair and built a superb walled patio overlooking stunning views, which has put the finishing touches to the house. The house stands alone on a hilltop affording complete privacy. The garden runs alongside land where local farmers grow fruit and vegetables, and a 100 yards down the track, the local farmer has around 1500 sheep, goats and horses (although you rarely see them unless you are up early) and his wife makes and sells cheese. A well-known 'Agriturismo' is a few minutes drive away for superb meals and the mountain walks are heavenly!
Year purchased: 2005
Why the owner chose a home in this location
The house has exceptional views, even within an area of outstanding beauty, because it is situated on it's own hill with sweeping panoramic views of mountains, valleys, the plain leading to Pescara, and even glimpses of the sea. That is why we bought it! It's location is also excellent, being 20 minutes from Pescara airport (2 hours from Rome Ciampino), 30 minutes from gorgeous beaches and 30 minutes from the ski slopes. It is between two medieval villages, both 5 minutes drive away. This area rarely gets tourists apart from Italians revisiting their former homes. Therefore people are very friendly, food is inexpensive and local festivals are authentic. In the summer all local villages sport their own festivals which are often medieval. Walks are lovely whatever time of year.
Unique benefits of the property
The unique feature of the house is that every room opens onto a magical landscape, either to the hills and great plain beyond with Pescara and glimpses of the sea in the distance, or onto the Majella mountain range and Gran Sasso, highest peak of the Appenines. In particular, each bedroom has large floor to ceiling windows so that the views can be seen without even getting out of bed! I have not been anywhere else locally where the views from the house are so exceptional (and hard to show to full advantage in photos). Dinner each night from the roof terrace - with nearly a 360 degree view - at dusk with the mountains gradually fading with the light are experiences you will never forget. The privacy is total as there are no near neighbours, so you can swim naked if you wish.
