Located in the centre of the medieval mountain village of Triora, this apartment is part of a noble house/former Convent. Today it is a private art gallery and home to an internationally recognised artist. Lovingly restored with no expense spared in 2005, it has been furnished with contemporary art amidst Italian antique furniture making it possible for holidaymakers to view art in a private and uniquely grand home. The British/American owner's studio is also housed on one of the upper floors and she is available for explanatory tours if desired. The apartment has stunning mountain and village views. In 2004, Triora was rightfully included in the list of most beautiful Italian villages (Club dei Borghi Pui Belli d'Italia). There are only about 100 members. Located in the Maritime Alps, Triora is only 40 mins drive from the sea at Arma di Taggia and offers a choice of either the Italian or the French Riviera. Monte Carlo is 50 minutes drive away. Nice airport is 90 min.

Special interest holidays
Triora is famous for its mountain walks in all directions, rare birds and fauna and mushrooms. (In September there is an annual Mushroom Festival.) Historically it is the home of Witchcraft (15th Cent. practices and burnings) with an excellent museum donated to the subject. It has 8 churches and 5 palaces which are presently being restored, all full of historically interesting paintings and other items. There are also many neighbouring villages with histories of their own to explore. Nice and Genoa are the nearest cities which are well worth a day out with the historic towns of San Remo and Imperia along the way, respectively. Monaco is another option well worth a look!

Travel
Nice airport is only 90 minutes drive away. The Genoa airport is 2 hours drive away. Other airports are further away but within a day's drive. A car/use is recommended unless you are a serious walker!

Distances
The house is in the centre of the village of Triora which is pedestrian as the medieval streets are too narrow for cars. Parking is free just outside the village and it is possible to unload things in a nearby market square. The Italian Riviera coast is 40 minutes drive away. The French border is another 10-15 minutes drive away. Baddalucco is the nearest old town about 20 minutes drive away and there are a number of interesting villages between Baddalucco and Triora to explore along the way.

Further details
There are at least 8-10 local restaurants within easy driving distance from Triora but the village caters for most requirements with an excellent restaurant, 2 bars, one of which also provides excellent local cuisine. There is a grocery, fruit and veg shop, first class delicatessen, hairdresser, hardware and appliances and various gift shops also in the village. There is a pharmacy in the next village, a bank in Baddalucco and supermarkets, fashion shops and a wealth of good restaurants and bars on the coast featuring the famous Ligurian cuisine. There are local street markets daily and various village festivals throughout the summer. There are several clean rivers for a private swim within walking distance.

Booking notes
A deposit of 25% is required to confirm the booking. Full payment is required 8 weeks prior to departure. A breakage deposit of €300 is required upon arrival (cash only, no cheques) but will be returned 14 days after the end of the stay.
