Casa Rughino is a stone country house surrounded by scented lavenders, roses, brooms and rosemaries. Located in a spectacular position on a Tuscan hill it is a short drive away from Arezzo, Florence, Assisi, Perugia, Cortona, Siena and Trasimeno. From its terraces overlooking Monterchi, home of Piero della Francesca’s fresco “Madonna del Parto”, you can enjoy incomparable landscapes on the tranquil Tuscan countryside. We can offer accommodation for up to 18 people in 2 spacious apartments and 1 double room, all with their own terrace and independent access but connectable inside (in the Manor), while the old haybarn has been transformed in a charming studio apartment. For big party we can convert a bedroom in dining room where it is possible to meet all together. Large swimming pool with stunning view,s olarium and shaded terrace. And for dinner ... barbecue under the pergola! We can rent the whole complex or single apartments/rooms + 2 other apartments and 4 rooms in a near building.

Notes on prices
Rental rates for 10-14 people sharing The Mannor (10 people for periods Nightly 7) include the exclusive use of the complex and facilities. For up to 14 people if you need to use Apt Sky a further € 400,00 is applied. Additional price per person up to 18 people: € 150/100 depending on season. Children under 2 years on date of arrival free of charge. Heating excluded. Special discounts for long terms rentals. Security Deposit: € 500 cash on arrival.
Changeover day
The rental rate is from Saturday to Saturday, but we can be flexible. Guests are kindly requested to arrive from 5pm onwards and to depart by 09.30am, to allow the house and pool to be thoroughly cleaned and prepared.

Notes on accommodation
In the whole complex there are 8 rooms with 2 or 3 beds (all rooms may be made up as twin or double on request), 5 bathrooms and 3 fully equipped kitchens. For big party one bedroom can be converted in living/dining room. In the Manor Apt Sun, Apt Moon and Aurora can be connected. Table and chairs for outside relax, 2 rooms have French windows to terraces. Each apartment is equipped with single heating. Floors and ceilings have been realized with classic Tuscan terracotta, while the original chestnut beams, the large fireplaces and the stone walls testify the ancient charm. The sunny interior paint enhance glamour and warm atmosphere to every room. The furnishings have been carefully selected with original pieces from the 1900s and new ones skilfully handmade by local craftsmen. Every accommodation is high standard, functional and supplied with linen and towels. If you need more rooms you can rent Montemiliano Farmhouse in the same hamlet (at 150 m.).

Outside
The house is set in its own grounds of 10 hectares. From the terraces of Casa Rughino you can enjoy incomparable views of the timeless beauty of the Tuscan and Umbrian countryside where tidy wheat, sunflower, tobacco and vegetable fields alternate vineyards, olive groves, nut and cherry woods. Sitted al-fresco of the shaded pergola the view ranges across the medieval hilltop village of Monterchi and Lippiano, with its perfect restored Renaissance Castle, while the walled village of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina looks out, unchanged by centuries, the peaceful flow of country life in this delightful corner of Valtiberina.
Meals can be eaten al-fresco on the terraces or under the Pergola whilst enjoying the magnificent views. There is also a barbecue for the more conventional outdoor cooking experience.
You can bath in a cooling (and fenced) panoramic swimming pool at your private disposal, in a wonderful secluded spot, enveloped by scent of lavender, broom and herbs.
Coast/Beach
Adriatic coast and Lago Trasimeno in one hour’s drive. No more than 2 hours’ drive to reach Tirrenic seaside resort.
Golf
Tennis courts and a golf course are only a 5-minute drive away.

The tiny village of Monterchi (just 1.5 km from Casa Rughino) is only 12 km from Sansepolcro and Città di Castello (Tiber Valley) and 30 kilometres from Arezzo. The major sights of Central Italy are a short drive away along the A1 motorway or E45 freeway: Arezzo, Cortona Siena, Gubbio, Perugia, Assisi and Lake Trasimeno are only 1 hour drive. No more than 2 hours drive to reach Florence, the Chianti wine Region, Montepulciano, Montalcino, San Marino. Just another hour drive to reach Rome.

When you’ve seen the sights you can leave the “madding crowds” behind and return to the peace of Montemiliano for relaxing walks strolling along the numerous pathways which start from our olive grove. Or you can simply relax in our swimming pool and enjoy the warm colours of the surrounding countryside. Thermal baths and a beauty farm are within just a 1/2 hour drive.
Owners live just 150 mt from Casa Rughino and are at your disposal for any needs.
Booking notes
Booking will be confirmed upon receipt of 30% deposit. The balance of payment is due 8 weeks before your holiday starts. In case of booking within 8 weeks of the start of the holiday full payment will be required.
Security Deposit: € 500 to be paid in cash on arrival at the property. The deposit will be returned on your departure.

About the owner
We are a young couple in our fifties and as almost 99% of Italians we had a dream: a farmhouse in Tuscany!
We lived in Milan and had a satisfactory working life but we felt unsuited to the pace of such a busy town. It has been a real lucky break to find Montemiliano 10 year ago. It was a ruined and uninhabited hamlet on the hills near Monterchi, with 10 h of uncultivated land; nevertheless when we first saw the outline of its roofs we immediately fell in love with it!
We worked hardly to restore to their former glory the complex and 7 years ago we moved and completely changed our lifestyle.
We had to learn almost everything but are now very proud of the results of our efforts and glad to share them with our friends and guests (there isn't really a big difference among these categories).
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We think Monterchi is not one of 'The Most Beautiful Villages in Tuscany' (see Thames and Hudson's), it is really 'The Navel of the world'!
Set in the heart of Renaissance Italy, it is brilliantly placed for exploring both Tuscany and Umbria and for a full immersion into the best of Italian culture. There is always somewhere new to visit and to discover by car, foot, and even ... by running!
Monterchi has a great feel of the real Italy, and the local villagers go out of their way to make you welcome. For art lovers, it is home to the famous 'Madonna del Parto' by Piero della Francesca. The grander cities of Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Perugia and Assisi are less than 1 1/2 hour drive and the airports of Rome, Pisa, Forlì, Florence, Perugia and Rimini are easily accessible.
Unique benefits of the property
Montemiliano is just 1.5km from Monterchi and with an easy walk you can reach good restaurants, bars and grocery stores. For the more athletic, there are many sports you can practise nearby: horse riding, tennis courts, golf course. Despite the closeness to the village the location is really stunning and you can relax in peace and privacy with no fear to be disturbed.
Our true flagships are the position, set on the top of the hill with a 360° view on Tiber Valley, and the panoramic swimming pool. We are not excellent photographers but it is quite impossible to convey such a perfect landscape and the intense emotion it arouses.
Our panoramic swimming pool could be a real problem for you: it will be difficult to leave the clear water to perform the hard work of tourist.
